LOGAN'S REVENGE

CHAPTER 5

             Kelly beamed with excitement when she saw Mr Lucas. Logan was also happy to see him. The man had given them a new life after a painful ordeal. Mr Lucas threw Kelly into the air and Kal greeted him.

               “How was your day Kal? Hope you had fun?”
                “Mr Henshaw showed us round the house and took us on a tour of the estate. It's very beautiful sir.” kal said.
             “I'm glad you like it here. This is your new home Kal. After dinner, I would like to discuss some matter of importance with you.” Lucas said and Kal nodded.

         Mr Lucas threw Kelly into the air again and she giggled. Henshaw came to call them for dinner. They sat at the dinning table and Henshaw supervised the serving. He also sat down to eat with them. Kal looked at him and Lucas met his gaze. He immediately understood what Kal was thinking.

                 “Henshaw is not just a butler in this house. He's my best friend. We found you that night. He's a member of this family just like you and your sister. Stop staring and eat your dinner. ” Lucas said firmly.
              “I'm sorry for staring Mr Henshaw ” Logan apologized.
               “It's fine Kal. Enjoy your dinner” Henshaw said with a smile on his face.
                They ate their dinner in silence. A maid came to take Kelly to her room so she could change for bed. She hugged Lucas and Logan before she left the room.

             “When is Mary returning? She needs to look after Kelly. She's the only person I can trust to take care of her properly. ”
Said Lucas.
                “she'll be arriving with the boys tomorrow. ”
            “Thank God. I can't keep on eating this crap you and your cooks feed me. Your wife is the best chef I know. ”

           Henshaw smiled and looked at Kal. He could see that the boy felt lost in the midst of the conversation. Who wouldn't be? The boy had a lot to adjust to.

                “Henshaw, tell a maid to bring some jasmine tea to the study. I need to talk to Kal in private.”

          Kal followed Lucas into the study. He was amazed at the quantity of books in it. He loved books. His mom had taught him to read and they had bonded with their reading. He missed her. He also missed Katherine. She had been just like their dad. She was always going on wild adventures with him. They would stay in the forest for days and they would go hunting, fishing and tree climbing.

        He sat on a chair across Mr Lucas. A maid brought in a pot of tea and cookies.
         “Now that we are alone, I would like you to please explain how you came to be in the forest that night. ”

          Kal didn't know where to begin. It was like relieving your worst nightmare. The pain in his arm became worse. He looked at Mr Lucas and thought to himself that he had nothing to lose if he told Lucas everything. Kal took a deep breath and explained

          “We were having dinner to celebrate my father's retirement. He was the Sheriff of Blue County. He got a call and he left us saying that he had some important business to attend to. He returned very angry and yelled at the security guards. My mother instructed my older sister Katherine to take us to our rooms and keep an eye on us.
         Kelly and I fell asleep and when I  woke up, our house was on fire and Katherine was strapping Kelly to my back. My father's friend killed my sister. I ran and I guess I lost my footing and fell. That's where you and Mr Henshaw found me.”

          Kal wiped his eyes. Lucas passed him a handkerchief and pondered on what Kal had just said. He had read in the newspapers that no one had survived the fire. Apparently, a tree had fallen across the road to stop the fire fighters and the paramedics from getting there on time. This wasn't an accident. The whole thing had been planned to the detail.

             “You say it was your father's friend? Do you remember his name? ” Lucas asked.
            “Yes, his name is Marlow Carstairs. Our families were really close. ”
           “Listen to me Kal, you have to forget about the past. You have to stay strong for your sister. You're the only family she has left.”
         “But she calls you Father. She also thinks of you as family. ”

          “Are you bothered that she calls me Papa? She's a very intelligent child. ”
          “She was very fond of my father. You have done more thI'm we could have hoped for. The least we can do is to call you father. We owe you our lives. ” Kal said with a look of gratitude on his face.

 
         “You and your sister have become  my children. Henshaw's wife, Mary is arriving tomorrow. She will take care of you and your sister. Do not think of your past anymore. Your future awaits you. ”

             That discussion in the study sealed Kals future. Mr Lucas made sure that they did not want for anything. They grew attached to Mary and her children and she doted on Kelly.  Mr Lucas officially changed their names to Logan and Marie Collingsworth.

            Logan went to school with Henshaw's twins and the labourer's kids. After he graduated from high school, he went to college in Bluesky City. He graduated with honors and started his own interior design business. He merged his company with his dad's architectural company.
          He made millions everyday because of his other investments. He came back to the estate to see his dad and he met him in a bad mood. Something was very, very wrong.
