LOGAN'S REVENGE

CHAPTER 16

          Marie couldn't believe her ears. She stared at her brother in shock. How had her dad found out? He lived miles away in the countryside. How had he heard ?
          “ What do you mean by dad wants me to come back to the estate? How the hell did he find out about what happened? ”
         “ You seem to forget that our father knows about all our movements. He is one of the wealthiest men in the town and I need not remind you of his connections. He  makes it his point of interest to know everything especially when it involves his children. ”

        Logan went into her walk in closet and came back with her suitcase.
        “ What are you doing? I'm not going anywhere with you. ”  She threw the covers from her body and sat upright on the bed.
      “ Listen to your brother. It's best we go with him. ”
       “ You're supposed to be backing me up Madison. We have a fashion show to prepare for. How the hell are we going to do that if we're on the other side of town? ” Marie said angrily.
         “We can take care of everything Marie. We just need to leave the team with proper instructions and they'll handle it. Your safety is important. ”
         “ You can try to make an excuse for my brother but I'm not changing my mind. I'm not leaving this house and that's final. ”
         “ Marie Hildegarde Collingsworth, I am tired of this argument. ” Logan's voice had risen like a mountain.
        “ You will pack only your essentials and the same goes for Madison. You have thirty minutes and if you're not ready, I'll get one of the guards to carry you. I trust I've made myself clear? ” He stormed out of the room and slammed the door shut. The noise echoed through the room.
   
           Marie slumped on the bed and buried her face in her hands. Madison walked over to her and held her shoulders.
         “ Marie you have to listen to reason. Don't you want to see your dad? You once told me you love the estate and would give anything to go back. This is your opportunity. ”
          “ I love the estate Maddie but I know my dad. He won't let me leave. He's very overprotective. ” Marie hugged her friend and released heart wrenching sobs on Maddie's shoulders.
        “ He knows you're not a child. He wants to protect you. And how do you know he won't let you leave? We'll never know unless we try. Your brother won't let your dad keep you against your will. ”
         “ I guess. You're right. Let's pack our bags before my brother comes back for us. ”
     She dried her eyes and they hugged again. Madison packed their bags while Marie left instructions for her team at the NGO. They finished packing together and went to join Logan. He was eating in the kitchen.
      “ We're ready to leave. ” Marie said.
      “ I knew Madison would knock some sense into you. We'll hit the road as soon as I'm done eating. ”
        Mrs Pritchard walked over to the two ladies and made the sign of the cross in front of them.
      “ The Blessed Virgin will protect you. I'll light a candle and say a prayer for your well being.”
         She hugged them and gave them a jar of vanilla cookies.
         “ I'll keep some guards to stay and watch over you peaches. Make sure you check the security alarms and shut all the doors before you go to bed. They'll be guards following you when you go out. If you notice anything suspicious, give me a call. ” Logan said and drank the rest of his smoothie.

        He carried their suitcases to the car  and kissed Mrs Pritchard on both cheeks. Marie sat in front with her brother while Madison sat in the back. Logan held his sister's hand and assured her that everything would be alright. She gave him a smile and looked.
         As they left the bustle of town for the countryside, Marie realised how much she had missed her father's estate. Her dad called her the princess of his little kingdom. She had flashbacks of when she would get lost in the fields and her dad would come looking for her. They would sit by the lake and have picnics and catch fish.

           They would have harvest parties and everyone would shower her with gifts. She had really felt like a princess. Her life had changed when she had had that accident, she blamed everything happened on herself. Her father had been in pain when she refused to come out of her depression. The thought of how her father had felt when he had sent her to Bluesky made her stomach coil. The breeze of the countryside blew her face and she felt sick.

        “ Stop the car Logan. I'm gonna be sick. ”
         He stopped the Jeep and she ran to the nearest bush to empty her stomach. Madison was at her side with a water bottle and she rinsed her mouth. Madison touched her forehead and called out to Logan.
         “ Her fever's back. She's really burning up. How long until we reach the estate? ”
       “ We should arrive in an hour or two. ”
       Marie felt dizzy. Everything was appearing in two's. She didn't want her brother to get worried.
      “ I'm fine Logan. I'll drink some pills in the car. I'll be fi........”
       That was the last thing she said before her knees went numb and everything went black.
      He carried her limp body back to the Jeep. He drove beyond the speed limit. He gripped the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles turned white. He gave his phone to Maddie and asked her to call his dad.

       “ Stop panicking Madison or you'll make me more nervous. Call my dad and tell him to have a doctor waiting. ”
     “ I'm sorry but she's so hot. I've never seen her like this. ”
She wiped the tears from her face and dialled Mr Lucas's number and gave him Logan's instructions.
      Logan stared at his sister. She looked pale. He drove with fear and prayed that it was just a fever and nothing else getting to her.
