LOGAN'S REVENGE

CHAPTER 31

        Marie was thirsty. She rubbed her eyes and pulled the covers away. She turned on the bedside lamp and replaced the covers on Madison. She checked the jug on the bedside table and it was empty. She groaned inwardly. Maddie must have gotten up sometime during the night and drank what was left of the water. She tapped her.

      “ What Is it Marie? It's the middle of the night. Did you have a nightmare?? ” Maddie asked.
     She had had a busy day and she was exhausted. Her body was sore from all the lifting and planning she had done for the party. The party was in a few hours and Marie was disturbing her precious beauty sleep.

      “ I'm sorry for waking you up but I'm thirsty and you didn't refill the jug. Please come down with me so I can refill it. ”

      “ Can't you go on your own? I'm so tired and my body hurts. ”

     “ I know you're tired but the whole house is asleep and I don't want to be alone. Please come with me.”

   Madison sighed and rubbed her eyes.

   “ Alright. You owe me one Marie. ”
    “ You're the best Bestie ever. ”

      She wore her robe and  followed Marie to the kitchen. The house was dimly lit and the house was quiet. Only the security alarms could be heard. They went down the stairs and into the kitchen. She turned on the light and sat on a kitchen stool. Marie removed a bigger jug from the fridge and refilled her smaller one. She was still refilling when they heard a loud crashing sound.

    “ What was that? I thought the guards were on duty. ” She rushed to stand next to Marie. She was trembling.

    “ I'm sure it's nothing. The guards are on duty and the security alarms are on. We can call the guards from the intercom when we get upstairs. ”
     She carried the jug but as they were about to leave, a masked man blocked the doorway and the jug fell from her hands and shattered into pieces.

     “ Don't scream or I'll blow your brains out. Step away from the glass gently and don't make a noise. ”

        He pulled a gun out of his coat and pointed it at them. They had gone pale and were shaking. He whistled and two men stepped into the kitchen.

    “ Please don't hurt us. I'll give you anything you want. There's a lot of money and jewels in the house. I can take you to where it is. ”  She begged.

     “ I don't need your money. Rico, gag and tie the other one. They've made our jobs easier. There wasn't need to go to their rooms. ”

     One of the men grabbed Madison and covered her mouth with a bandana. The taller of the two men pulled her legs from beneath her and tied her legs. She struggled with them but their hold was strong.

      “ Don't hurt her. I'll do anything you want. I'm begging. Please don't hurt her. ” Marie cried. She wanted to scream till the whole house woke up but she couldn't for fear that they would shoot her or Maddie. 
   She couldn't stand the sight of her friend being tortured. She grabbed a knife from the kitchen island and threw at one of the men but she missed.  Their leader grabbed her and covered her face with a piece of cloth. She struggled but her body went limp and the darkness pulled her in.
    He carried her over his shoulders.

    “ Tie her properly. I want to have a good head start ahead of them before morning. I'll be at the meeting point. Hurry up. ” He said and left.

     Madison continued to struggle with the men. How had they gotten past the guards? She wanted to scream but she choked on the gag. They tied her and left. Dear God! Hadn't anyone heard the noise? What was going to happen now?

     Samantha adjusted her sweatpants and secured her MP3 to a patch on her arm and left the room. She loved running in the morning before she started her day. It helped her sort her thoughts.  But she had woken up earlier today to run before the kids woke up for the party. 
   
      She made her way down the stairs and to the kitchen for a glass of water. She cringed when she stepped on the broken glass. This was strange. The servants always cleaned the kitchen before they went to bed. Her senses became alert. She watched her step as she walked to the other side of the kitchen. She almost fell when she bumped into something. She took a closer look. Dear God! It was Madison. Her eyes were swollen from crying. Sam rushed to her and loosened the gag.

    “ What happened here? Who did this to you? ”

     She took in deep breaths and wiped her eyes. She was sore but that was the least thing on her mind.

    “ We came to get some water and some men attacked us and they took Marie. You have to call the police. ”

   “ What the hell? How in the world did they get past the security guards ?? I checked all the alarms before I went to bed. ”

    “ I don't know how they got in but they took Marie. We have to do something. ”

   “ Stay calm and get your nerves together. ” She helped her to the living room and went back upstairs to wake up the house. Richard was the first to come running down.

   “ How long ago did this happen? Why didn't you scream? ” He was furious.

  “ Don't yell at her. She was a mess when I found her. Can't you see the bruises the ropes left on her skin? ”

   The rest of the family assembled in the living room. Lucas walked to the window and  looked outside. He was going to fire the entire security team if anything happened to his daughter. Who was he kidding? This was his fault. He had failed to protect his family.
