Marie tried to open her eyes but they were heavy. She opened them slowly but everything looked blurry. She touched her forehead, it was hot. She was burning up and she felt sore all over. She shut her eyes tightly and opened it slowly. Everything seemed clearer now. She was in her old bedroom at the mansion.
It looked different, the paint and furniture had been changed but all her books, wallpapers, fabrics and mannequins were exactly were she had left them. There were a lot of other changes but it still felt like she had her childhood again. She had missed this room.
She pulled the covers away from her body and tried to stand but her knees gave way and she fell on the bed. She was weak and dizzy. Whatever sedative had been given to her still had effect.

" You shouldn't be getting out of bed. The doctor said you need plenty of rest. " Her father said from the doorway.
" Daddy, you're here. "

He walked up to his daughter and hugged her. Holding her in His arms again was like heaven. He couldn't bare to lose her. She was his everything.

" I'm sorry I caused you pain dad. I love you too much to hurt you. I'm so sorry. " She said and sobbed in his shoulders. "

He held her shoulders and wiped her tears with his handkerchief.

" It's alright my dear. I shouldn't have tried to lock your free spirit. It's all past so let's not point fingers. What matters is that you're safe. But I need you to tell me what happened in Bluesky. "

Marie froze in her father's arms. Memories of that night made her skin crawl.

" It was horrible dad. Maddie and I returned home from a meeting and the whole house was a mess. They used lipsticks to write threats on the wall and stuck knives everywhere. We were so scared but we didn't call the cops cause I insisted. We cleaned it up and came here. The fashion show with the kids was the perfect excuse. " She blew her nose and sighed.

" It's alright Sunshine. You did what you thought was right. No harm will come to you on my watch. When all this is over, you can return to Bluesky. I won't keep you here against your will. "

Her eyes widened in shock. She couldn't believe her ears.
" Thank you so much dad. I love you so much. "

" I love you too my sunshine. Let's go downstairs. We can have lunch before you use your medicine. Your fever isn't gone yet. Mary's been cooking up a storm since you arrived yesterday. She misses you. "

" I can't wait to see her. I miss her too. "

Lucas held his elbow out to her and led her down the stairs to the dining room. The whole family was seated except Katherine. Lucas wanted Marie to recover before he acquainted her with her sister. He just prayed she accepted it.

" My sweet child. I missed you. Come sit next to me. We have a lot to catch up on. "

Lucas pulled out the chair next to Mary for her. The older woman gave her a hug and a kiss.

" I missed you too Mary. It's so good to see you. I heard you've been cooking up a storm. I'm famished. "

" Of course my dear. I cooked all your favorite dishes and I baked the pastries with extra honey just like you like them and there's raspberry icecream with fruit salad. I'll serve you myself. You look too thin. "

Mary began to fill Marie's plate with food and her father smiled.
" Hmm...... Never did I think I'll see the day we'll be thrown aside Richard. Ever since Marie arrived, your mom hasn't stopped singing her praises. We've been here for years and she never fussed over us like this." Logan winked at Richard and sipped his wine.

" There's no need to be jealous. You're all my children but your sister is special. She's like the daughter I never had. Don't tease her or you won't get any lunch. "

" Don't worry Logan. We've had a successful reign these past years so let's leave some room for Marie. " He winked at her and she smiled back.

" You gave me a huge scare yesterday Marie. I've never seen you so pale. I almost had a heart attack. How do you feel ? "

" I feel better Maddie. I'm sorry I scared you. Hope you like it here ? "

" Are you kidding?? This place is huge. We should have come sooner. I feel like a princess. The air is clean, the food is fresh and the horses are amazing. I saw your horse, she's beautiful. We should go riding soon. "

They laughed and continued to talk through lunch. Marie realized how much she had missed her family. Making memories with them was precious to her. They finished lunch and the servants cleared the plates.

" I haven't seen Robert and Henshaw. Where are they? "

" Robert went away for some important business. My dad is busy with the labourers on the estate. It's harvest season. I'll take you to see him when we're done. We'll pick berries just like old times. "

" That would be great Richard. Can I come along? " asked Madison.

" Sure thing Madison. I'll introduce you to everyone. I'll even take you to the jam factory up north. Is that okay Uncle? Can I take them? "

" You can take them as long as you don't try anything stupid with my daughter. I'm old but I haven't lost my sense of reasoning. I know Madison is trying to act as your shield. "
Lucas smiled and sipped his wine. How could they think they could hide their relationship without him finding out.

Marie smiled. She knew nothing could escape her father.

" I'm sorry for hiding it Uncle but we thought you wouldn't give us your blessing considering the fact that I'm older. "

" I understand your fears Richard. I forgive both of you and you have my blessing. I support your relationship. "
Marie came across the table and hugged her dad.

" Thank you dad. I promise not to let you down. I love you. "

" You better take care of my sister Richard. You make her cry and I'll hurt your ass. "

They all laughed.
