I woke up with the smell of fire around me. My older sister was shaking violently. She held my younger sister close to her. I could see fear in her eyes. The roof was crumbling over our heads. She strapped my kid sister to my back and dragged us out of the room. I could smell blood as we passed by our living room but was blindfolded by the smoke to see anything. As soon as we got outside, I looked at the roaring inferno that was once my home and worried if my parents were still inside. I felt my older sister behind me.
“Katherine, are you alright? Where's mum and dad?  Where do we go". I coughed loudly and my chest felt like they were on fire. I guess it was because of the smoke.
Katherine held my face in her hands and said to me
“Listen to me Kal, get Kelly out of here, don't look back and whatever you do, don't stop running."
“What about you Katherine? Aren't you coming with us? Let's go together, I'm not leaving without you ". I said adamantly.
“Kal didn't you hear what I just said, get out of here. Everything  is gone, our house, mom, dad, everything is all gone. Get out of here Kal, don't stop running and keep Kelly safe. Get out of here."
I didn't wait for her to scream at me again. I ran across our house, there wasn't any being in sight. The house was at the edge of the woods and nobody would come to our rescue except if they saw the heavy fumes of smoke in town. I suddenly had the urge to go back to the house but I hid behind the gate and I could still see Katherine. Kelly was asleep on my back, I guess we had strapped her so tight that she wasn't affected by the fumes and the noise of our house crumbling.
Katherine was calling out to my parents but there wasn't any answer. I saw some men coming out of  the bushes near the house and I began to shout Katherine's name but I was too far away for her to hear me. But I recognised one of the men, he was my father's best friend. I was glad to see him and wanted to run towards him when I saw him point a gun at my sister. I froze in  my tracks. He grabbed her and when she fought him, he pulled her hair. I wanted to kill him as I cursed under my breath.

One of his men used a gun to hit her head and she fell flat to the ground. He checked for a pulse and I knew she was dead. I didn't wait to see the rest but began to run. I didn't know where I was going but my only source of light was from the moon.
As I ran deeper into the woods, I didn't turn back to see if we were being followed or if there was any nocturnal animal in sight.
I kept on running and Kelly was wailing loudly behind me. I ran and suddenly I lost my balance, I saw myself falling and then I was on the ground with a loud thud. I felt my eyes closing but I could see Kelly and then there was nothing else but Pitch black as I was drawn into darkness.
