Gus and Ivy sat at the back table in the corner with no one else but them. The boy pulled out his MacBook and started typing, swaying his head. Ivy laughed. "What song are you thinking about?"

"Uh, something by Post Malone..." Gus never stopped swaying his head while answering.

"Stoney or beerbongs?"

"beerbongs." He scratched his head like an ape then went back to swaying his head to the silent music. "Wait, it's Candy Paint."

The bell rang and Coach Woods walked in. She noticed Gustav sitting with a girl, swaying his head.

"Gus, what you doin' over there?"

He stopped swaying his head and looked at her with an expression that was a mix of blank and surprised. The coach laughed. "You got a girl now?"

"Uh... I wish but no. She's just a new friend." Ivy smiled and waved at Coach Woods.

"Hi, I'm Ivy."

"Coach Woods. I'm the basketball coach for the lady Wolves... uh, yeah. This class is pretty chill 'cause I don't really ask much of you." Ivy nodded. "So where you from?"

"Freeport, Maine. My dad and I moved here since a lot of his friends in the LA and Oakland area." Coach nodded and sat at her desk.

"I didn't know you were from Maine." Ivy nodded. "I'm from the Pennsylvania area."

"Penn area?"

"Well, like the state but uh, we moved here to San Fransico when I was young so I don't really remember what part we lived in."

"Cool." They both went to doing separate things. Ivy began reading, listening to music, and taking notes of the book while Gus had his earbuds in, watching Netflix, and picking at his nail polish.

"Gustav, you're worse than a girl with that nail polish," Coach Woods commented, getting laughter from the class.

"I know, my mom tells me ALL the time how I was supposed to be a girl but turns out I wasn't... so. Yeah."

Layla burst out into laughter. "BAHAHA!"

He smiled. He felt wanted at school even though some people gave him a hard time since he was different than them. He didn't consider most people he spoke to friends, just companions, but people who listened to his all the time--such as Layla--he 100% considered them friends. Really all you needed was good listening skills to be good in Gustav's book.

The pink-and-black haired boy went back to watching iZombie and he got so involved, he started chewing on his nails and a couple of them he accidentally chewed to a quick. He frowned. Ivy took notice of his expression.

"Gus? You okay?" Ivy asked as she took out an earbud.

"My nail... I chewed it off. See." Gus showed her, it beginning to bleed. "Now it's sore..."

She smiled. "You sound like a little kid."

He made a face that was sort of a frown but he wasn't sad, just perturbed. "Thanks, Vy... that makes me so much better about myself."

She just chuckled. "Sorry. Here, I have a band-aid in my bag."

Ivy leaned over and pulled a small black bag out of her backpack. She scoured through the bag and pulled out two band-aids along with Neosporin. "You're like a mom... what else you got in your bag? A whole construction crew?"

The girl laughed quietly. "No, my dad always puts band-aids in here because the school's are made with latex and I'm allergic to it so... yeah. He doesn't want me having an allergic reaction when he's not around to do something about it."

"Do you not have one of those pens or whatever they're called?" She shook her head.

"No, all my skin does is puff up and turn red. It doesn't affect me that much." Gustav nodded. "I'm also allergic to Soy but I get bumps."

"So you get hives?"

"Pretty much... but they're like... not as severe. If that makes sense."

"Kinda. Like just enough for me to understand." Ivy nodded and Gus just smiled.

"I just noticed you have iced out teeth."

"Yeah..." Gus removed them and presented them to the girl in the palm of his hand. "I needed to remove them anyways because my gums get irritated after a few hours with them in."

"You have beautiful teeth, Gustav," Ivy complimented. "They're perfect. Have you ever had braces?"

"Nope. You?" The boy shoved the objects into a small gum container where they wouldn't get broken or contaminated by dirt. He put the plastic container in the side pocket of his backpack on the floor.

"Yeah, but I had an invisible aligner rather than braces." Ivy smiled. "But you're so lucky."

"Not really. I still don't have my wisdom teeth and I'm afraid they'll screw with my whole mouth." Gus put his hands on his cheeks. "I don't wanna be filmed while on Amnesia."

Ivy awed at the thought. "You'd be so cute though!"

Gustav blushed. Did she just call me cute? Bruh... wtf. "Thanks... but uh, not really. I don't really put in effort when I get dressed. I mean look at me. I'm wearing orange slides with a blue shirt, pink jeans, and purple briefs."

"Well, I like your outfit. I'm more avoiding trends and doing my own thing."

"You look normal compared to me."

"Could you not call me that?" Ivy tried her best to not seem rude.

"Oh, okay. Sorry."

"It's okay you didn't know." She held out her palm. "Give me your fingers that're bleeding."

Gustav said nothing but obeyed by placing his index and middle fingers in her palm. She placed them on the table briefly where she could open a band-aid. Ivy squeezed a small amount of medicated creme onto the pad of the bandage. She placed it on his middle fingernail and wrapped the sticky adhesive part around his finger.

He removed his finger and placed it under his palm with his other fingers. She repeated the same thing for his index finger. "There you go!"

"Thanks, mom." She giggled and smiled. Gustav smiled at her lovely smile.

"You're welcome, my graceful daughter." Gus made the agitated face again.

"No problem... dad." Their eyes met and they both shared a short laugh. While Ivy was still laughing, Gustav was studying her. He was realizing how pretty she was and maybe Coach Woods was right: she could someday be his girl.
