As Gustav's mother pulled up to let the boy out, he kissed her cheek. "Bye, mama! See you after school!"

"Bye, baby." She smiled as he got out of her Chevy Traverse. "Is Grayson coming over still?"

"I'll ask but I doubt it; she may be doing it with Maddie or McKinley."

"What about Ivy? Does she have a partner for the project?"

"Not sure. Love you."

"Love you too, Gustav. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me." Gus stopped and looked down. He shut the door before anything else was said. As he walked into the cafeteria, he started to panic. Why did I do that?! Now she's never gonna say anything like that again! Damn you brain!!

He ignored his actions and walked into the warm building that was probably 30 degrees warmer than it was outside. Gustav removed his neon pink and green fluffy cover-up, throwing it over his arm as he walked down the hall to his dark multi=purpose room. But when he got there something wasn't right.

The door was locked.

He tried the next door over but it was locked too. He panicked then something touched him, making him jump and yell. Gus turned, lifting his black and diamond-lined glasses. "You that kid that always sits out here ion the morning?" The man asked. He had crystal blue eyes, long, blonde hair pulled into a ponytail, and rather pale skin. He was about the same height as Gustav but a tad shorter.

"I-I guess, but I can leave if you're using it." The pink-and-black-haired boy looked at the man.

"No, but Mrs. Hogg said you need to go sit with everyone else. She said something about knowing where every student is at all times but I don't recall well since I didn't really listen."

"Mood but that's vacuous." Gustav ridiculed. "Why?"

"Again, her job is to know where everyone is at all times. At least just the students." Gus furrowed his brows.

"If she knows I'm the kid that comes here every day then she technically knows where I'm at," the teen stated stubbornly. The guy sighed to himself.

"Please just go back. I'm just the IT guy that's underpaid." Gus shrugged and walked back into the cafeteria. He sat at his table he always sat at during Lunch and put in his earbuds since he hated everyone but like 15 or 16 people at the school, including staff.

Gustav sat there for practically an hour, staring at a fly that didn't move but twice only to clean its feet. "Did I really just do that? Man life is getting pointless... or maybe I'm getting dumber. Oh well."

He stood and ran through the pack of mutts to get to the front door to meet up with Ivy. When he reached his destination, however, she was with another guy. He was tall--taller than Gustav--with light brown hair and green-blue eyes. He had on a plain black shirt, American Eagle jeans, and a pair of white Predator 19.1's. The pink-and-black-haired boy approached them sheepishly. "Uh... h-hey Vy. Wh- who's this?"

"Gus, this is Manuel. He's an exchange student from Austria. He can speak German too..." Gustav could see the swooning look in Ivy's eyes; a hint of jealousy slapped him in the face like a plastic whiffle ball bat.

"It's just German, Ivy," Manuel said in his accent. His accent's hot too! Gus recalled the Spongebob meme he practically referenced. He laughed his weird Peter Griffin laugh, making Ivy laugh with a little snort. She turned red.

Manuel smiled with a small chuckle, making Ivy turn even redder.

Well make matters worse why don't ya' Gustav?  He sighed. "C'mon, we gotta get to class."

"Oh yeah, we probably should." She agreed and grabbed Manuel's hand.

SMACK! There it was again. Gustav's eye twitched meagerly at Ivy's action. Great, Bexey was right. I need to grab her before this German guy does...

Thankfully, Manuel didn't have Advanced Art with Ivy and Gustav but he had second, advisory, music, and eighth period. Gustav wanted to stab himself in the eye with the end of his earbuds cord. He and the black-haired girl walked into the classroom, convening at their table. "So, are you having to do that stupid science project for Mr. Johnson?"

"Yeah. Manuel's lucky, he doesn't." She responded half listening, half dreaming about the German student. Gus felt his breakfast and stomach acid come up his esophagus.

"Could we not talk about him?" The teen asked, it coming out bitterly. Ivy looked at him.

"Why?"

"I-I don't know, I just don't really wanna talk about him... but I was gonna ask if you wanted to be my partner for the project."

She crossed her arms and shrugged. "I don't know are you gonna be an ass about Manuel?"

"I'm not being an ass! I'm just asking if we couldn't talk about him!"

"I know you're just jealous of him, Gustav!" She shouted. Gustav's shoulders sank and his legs went numb. His face got red out of anger.

"Why would I be jealous of a Nazi, Ivy?!" The girl got up and relocated at a table with two girls named Kallie and Harley. "Running away from your problems like always, Taggart!"

"Don't talk to me." She muttered, not turning around but knowing Gustav heard her.

"Fine! I don't need you! I have other friends like Bexey! At least he thinks about other people besides some Nazi and himself!"

"STOP CALLING HIM THAT YOU PRICK!" Gus was taken back by her words. He glanced back at the substitute teacher who was still reading her book, not affected by the conversation yelling match. He looked back at his "friend".

"You wanna be like that? Hm? I can play that... bitch." She looked at him.

"Why did I ever think you were a nice person? Ya' know, I used to actually like you, Gustav, I really did. But now I know you're just like all high school friends: deceitful." She turned back around and laid her head on the table. Gustav took in a deep breath, letting it out after a few seconds.

Why do I do the things I do? I just ruined another perfectly good friendship... over some guy she may or may not like. Frick, now she hates me... He threw his neon cover-up over his head out of spite. "I hate myself so much right now."
