In which a laker falls for his teammates god sister.....
~When you feel it in your body
You found somebody who makes you change your ways
Like hanging with your crew
Said you act like you're ready
But you don't really know
And everything in your pas...
"Hey kid you almost finished with those evaluations yet?"
I looked up as my boss' loud voice seemed to echo throughout the room.
"Almost boss man, I got 2 more left in the stack," I smiled and chuckled softly at the exhausted look on his face, "they giving you a hard time?"
He gave me an exasperated look that said 'you think', "You know how these athletes are, they want their PT done quickly, and when it isn't they whine like a bunch of big ass babies."
His blunt statement made me let out a loud laugh. Mr. Brooks was a large dark skin man that stood at about 6'6" weighing about 250lbs. Despite being 50 years old, the man could bench 200 lbs easy without breaking a sweat and could intimidate just about anyone, but to me he & his wife have been a godsend for the past year.
At the end of my freshman year at UCLA I was offered an internship at California Rehabilitation & Sports Therapy, the most elite sports rehab center in the country. Before this I was shadowing the sports therapists in the UCLA athletics department, which Mr. Brooks helps run, he saw how hard I worked and already understood and offered me a paid internship. Even though I have spent the past year trying to juggle this job with my classes on top of trying to find time to actually sleep, it's been one of the best opportunities and if I can just ride this out I'm guaranteed a job after graduation in 2 years.
"You ain't have to dog them out like that Mr. B." I said still getting my laugh under control.
"You know it's true, but that isn't what I came in here to talk to you about.I came to tell you that your probationary year is over, and you are now a part time employee instead of an intern, which means less hours and a pay raise." He said making me squeal and jump out of my seat. I ran to the overly large man and gave him a death grip making him let out a chuckle.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" My face was honestly starting to hurt from all the smiling at this point.
"You earned it kid. Between the references you got from your high school sports therapist that you shadowed and the work you've done here & at UCLA, by the time you graduate you'll be over qualified," he paused giving me a pat on the head, "just finish up and take your lunch break." He gave me one more fatherly smile and walked out of the room fixing it to an intimidating scowl by the time he hit the door.
"Boy! Did I tell you to stop running! Get your ass back on that treadmill!" His deep voice boomed in the hall as he yelled at one of his clients making me laugh again.
I honestly couldn't contain my joy right now and I had to hit my Carlton one time just for the hell of it.

I was broken out of my celebrating when I heard my phone ring. I picked it up and smiled at the name FaceTiming me.
