Chapter One
It wasn’t until I had finished my shower that I realised that today wasn't just any day. My favourite boy band was in town and I was going to their concert tonight with my best friend, Sophia Jackson. Our seats weren’t the best but I honestly couldn’t care less. We were going to see One Direction and that was all that mattered.
The concert wasn’t until the evening, so I still had a whole day to kill. I straightened my long brown hair, pulled on my favourite red hoodie and some jeans. Whilst eating my breakfast, I had an idea. I decided to call my other best friend Kade Shepard.
I had known Kade since I could remember because he had been my neighbour my whole life. That is, until a few years ago when his dad had just got a job in the city and they decided to move closer. At the time we were devastated, but I still see him every weekend, so I'm cool with it.
I fidgeted impatiently as the phone rang. He picked up almost instantly.
“Hey Rose, what’s up,” he chirped. How he can be so lively at this time of the morning, I have no idea.
“Hey Kade, do you want to go busking in Fremantle today?" I asked hopefully. It would definitely be more fun if he came with me.
“I'm up for it! How about I meet you at the jetty near the beach?”
“Sounds good, I'll see you there in about twenty minutes”
I grabbed my microphone and guitar and shoved them into the boot of the car. Because I'm only sixteen, I had to put the L-plates on too. Mum threw me the car keys and jumped into the passenger seat.
“Honey, once we get to Fremantle I’m going to quickly get some groceries we need then I'll be off, call me when you need to be picked up”
“Thankyou mum!” I chimed, suddenly remembering something, "Oh, I have the concert tonight!"
“I know, you haven't stopped talking about it in days!” she teased, "You'd better make sure you're back in time to get ready,"
When I finally pulled into the parking space in Freo, we both hopped out of the car and went our separate ways. Separate...directions. Ha!
“See you later,” I smiled.
“Bye Rose, have fun!” she replied, starting to walk down the busy street.
I headed towards the Jetty carrying all of my stuff when all of a sudden someone grabbed me from behind. I tried to scream but a hand covered my mouth. I struggled in panic, earning some strange looks from passers-by.
“Calm down Rose, its just me!” I heard someone whisper into my ear.
“Kade! Don’t do that to me! You gave me a heart attack!” I said indignantly.
“But I had to! Plus, your reactin was priceless,” he chuckled.
“You're forgiven...are you ready to do some dancing?” I asked, unzupping my guitar from it's case. And drawing my fingers across the strings to check if they were in tune.
Kade was a talented dancer. He’d been dancing his whole life and he was the best dancer I knew. So while I busked on the street he danced to my music. I always gave him half the money we got because he was so good and always brought in the biggest crowds.
I settled down on the mat, strumming my guitar. It would be another great day making music on the streets of Fremantle.
