"Favorite ice cream flavor?"
"Cookies and Cream no doubt about it. I did have this one flavor that was called Cookie Monster, but that was still cookies and cream but like on steroids. It was amazing."
Jamie chuckles and rubs his hand along my tummy.
"Favorite season?"
I feel him pause before he continues his movements.
"Fall. It's the start of hockey season and Texas just looks prettier in fall."
It has been a whole hour in this elevator and we still haven't got out. I had called Tom to inform him of the situation while Jamie called coach and explained what had happened.
"Favorite Disney movie?"
I give him a look before pushing my arm in his face.
In Greek lettering I had 'I can go the distance' tattooed on my wrist.
"What? It just looks like weird letter. I don't know what it is."
I snicker at his response he's so slow sometimes.
Good thing he can play hockey.
"Hercules, babe, Hercules is my favorite Disney movie. This says I can go the distance in Greek."
He lets out a little 'oh' as if it finally clicked in his brain.
I jump feeling his phone vibrate against my side.
"Sorry." He murmurs while reaching for his phone.
He picks it up and looks at the text.
"Segs needs proof we are alive. He refuses to believe that we aren't dead yet." Jamie chuckles letting me see Tyler's text. It was a whole paragraph talking about how he hopes we are alive and send him updates on our condition and that he needs proof that we are still alive.
I shake my head before pulling out my phone. I open up snap chat and take a picture of us.
If was actually kinda adorable but I didn't save it before I sent it to Tyler with the words, 'alive and breathing. please pay someone to get us out of here.'
"Who did you send that too?" Jamie asks chuckling softly.
"Ty, he was worried so I am easing his mind."
Jamie smiles shaking his head.
"You two are children."
I nod my head smiling at him.
I was kind of a child. I was only twenty-four.
So, in the management and social team I was the baby. I definitely wasn't the baby in the actual team, that title went to Miro, who was so much more mature than I am.
"I am a child. He can't consider himself that anymore. He's three years away from being thirty."
I gasp feeling a poke in my side making me look up at Jamie.
"What the-"
"I'm turning thirty this year!"
I look up at him with a blank face. I forgot about that minor age difference.
"Yeah, but you are more mature than Tyler. He's still going to be this childish mess when he turns thirty. You aren't."
He gives me a look so I kiss his cheek.
I jump hearing the elevator rumble around us before the lights flicker again and we start moving.
"Aye! We are finally about to be free, bub!" I cheer standing up. I text Tom telling him that the elevator is moving now.
"That's the most Canadian you've sounded since I've met you."
I look at Jamie who was now also standing.
"Well yeah. I'm not Canadian. I'm American. I talk like an American with a slight southern accent."
He chuckles and kisses my head.
"I'm sorry we don't get to do anything for Valentine's Day."
I shake my head and fix his suit.
"As long as you score tonight I'll be happy and maybe if you swing by my room with a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. That would be nice too." I tease before stepping out of the elevator as soon as the doors open.
I smile seeing that a few of the boys were there waiting for us.
Ben rushes towards me and envelopes me in his lanky arms.
I hug my brother tightly leaning my head against his chest.
"Are you okay? You feel good? Need to get mom?"
I shake my head smiling faintly.
Benji could be annoying sometimes but he knew what made me upset and always made sure I was okay.
"I'm good. I promise. I need something a little stronger than water but I can wait until after I get the moms settled in at the sky box to sneak a drink. I promise I'm okay Ben."
He nods his head and hugs me once again.
"I get we are all glad that Brie is okay but we all need to get to arena." Tom Holly chirps from somewhere behind us.
I chuckle shaking my head. I bump his side while walking to the bus making sure I had a head count.
"Tom, we're missing somebody!" I call to the pr manager who was getting on the bus.
He glances around before giving me a look.
"What?" I ask glancing behind me trying to see if anything was behind me.
"Oh my god you are so dense sometimes. Jamie isn't here."
I groan before looking at the hotel.
"I swear. I'm going to kick his ass." I mumble before getting off the bus to find the missing captain.
"Jamie Randolph Benn! Where the hell did you go? We have to leave!" I groan seeing him walk out of the hotel.
He jogs over to me with a sheepish smile.
He shoves a box in my hands before pressing a quick kiss to my lips. I furrow my brows and watch as he jogs onto the bus.
I glance at the box in my hands before getting on the bus.
"Ooo whats that?" Tom ask once he sits beside me.
"I don't know I haven't opened it yet."
I open the box untying the ribbon on the outside. My mouth falls agape seeing what was in the box.
A silver bracelet was in the box with multiple charms. I examine each one my heart fluttering in my chest.
"What is it? Come on kid! I don't have all day."
I giggle and shake my head.
"He got me a bracelet with all the teams I've worked with or for. I have the SPHL teams I worked for, see you have Macon and Birmingham and Knoxville. Then there's Boston and Edmonton which I interned at. Finally there is Nashville and Dallas." I mumble shaking my head slightly.
I put the bracelet on smiling at the charms.
"Oh my god. What have you done to Jamie?"
I laugh softly and look at Tom.
I shrug my shoulders staring at the bracelet.
~
I stand in the sky box watching the game with the mothers.
I was in charge of getting small little videos of them enjoying the game and having some fun.
The game had been great so far. Tyler has gotten us a goal in the second period and Miro got one soon after Tyler's. Jamie had been trying so hard all night but ever shot he took was just a little off. I could see the frustration in his eyes but I knew there was nothing anyone could do to help him with that.
My attention was directed towards the ice when I heard the crowd starting to get loud. I rush to the front hearing someone in the crowd in front of us say Jamie's name.
My heart beats faster seeing Jamie dropped his gloves and was in a brutal fight with one of the Arizona players.
I lean forward trying to figure out if I was sure what I was seeing fall on the ice was blood. I wince seeing Jamie stumble to the ground along with the other guy.
'Oh shit he's bleeding' a fan says before booing when the ref pulls the boys apart.
"Brianna! Go down stairs and see what's going on. No one is responding to me and if Jamie's bleeding we need pictures for later."
I was frozen for a second seeing that Jamie hadn't got up.
I glance at Tom before nodding my head slowly.
I take off towards downstairs having to get to Jamie.
I wasn't moving as fast as I wanted to due to the fact that I was in heels and a dress.
I show the security my badge before looking for anyone I knew.
Tyson, one of my new found friends, nods his head to the trainer's room with a sympathetic look.
I knock before walking in my phone in hand.
"Brie, you really-"
"I'm sorry coach but it's my job to update social media on how our players are doing. I can't do that if no one lets me know." I interject my hands shaking.
I flinch hearing a groan come the person on the table.
He gives me a soft look before moving so I could see Jamie.
He was out of his jersey, shorts, and pads already. His skates were untied but not off jet.
I pull my phone out sending Tom a quick text that Jamie was breathing and conscious.
"He has a fractured nose and cut above his brow that is going to need stitches. He can't go out and finish this game."
"No. No I have to finish the game. I have to get a goal."
My heart aches knowing why he wanted to get a goal.
"Jamie, listen to the trainer. You can't go back out there bleeding. You need stitches. I have to get back out there."
I watch as Coach walks past me patting my shoulder.
I nod to him before forming a tweet. I screen shot it before sending it to Tom seeing if this was okay.
"We are going to have to take you to the hospital to make sure that your nose doesn't have to have surgery."
I watch as Jamie tenses up before shaking his head.
"No. No I can't. I don't have time for that."
The trainer looks over at me with pleading eyes.
I nod my head and walk over to the table.
I take Jamie's hand and mess with his hair.
"Bub, you have to do what they say. You can't just tell them no. This is your health. The sooner you get treatment the quicker you can get out there and play. If they say you have to go to the hospital you are going to the hospital."
His eyes were watery but he didn't shed a tear.
"I didn't score a goal for you."
I shake my head years already in my eyes from worrying about him.
"And now you're about to cry. Fuck, I'm terrible."
I shake my head and caress his jaw.
"I'm crying because I'm worried about you, Jamie. You didn't get up after the fight. You didn't bounce back and I was scared. I am scared. No one was telling us anything. You don't understand how scary it is when no one is telling you anything." I murmur cupping his jaw.
"You, Jamie Benn, are amazing. I just want you to be safe and healthy. You're going to go to the hospital and get checked over to make sure the trainer didn't miss anything. Your mom can go with you if that will make you more comfortable. Please do this. When you get cleared you can come sleep in my bed because it's more comfortable and I will be right by your side until we have to leave early tomorrow morning for Tampa."
He looks up at me with his brown eyes. I can see the pain he is in but he would never tell me.
"Make sure the guys know I'm okay, yeah? Please. 'Specially Seggy. He is a worrier and I know he's probably panicking out there."
I nod my head before pressing my ear piece.
"TH, I need Heather Benn down to the trainers room. They are about to take Jamie to the hospital to double check everything is okay. I will be staying down here for the rest of the game since we only have a few minutes left."
"Over, BB. Mama Benn is on her way down. I'm glad our boy is okay. Tell him everyone is worried about him."
I smile humming in response before looking at Jamie again.
"Mama Benn is on her way. Tom says that everyone is sending their best wishes and they are worried about you."
I rub his jaw gently not wanting to cause him anymore pain.
"You're wearing your bracelet."
I smile and nod my head shaking my wrist so the charms jingle.
"You like it?"
I giggle at his concern.
"I love it, Chubs. I really do. You even got my SPHL teams on here. I really love the thought. Yours is still in the works. I kinda had some help with it so like it's taking longer."
Jamie gives me a look, that was laced with pain, before playfully rolling his eyes.
"I swear if you went to Tyler and he brought up the mun-"
I couldn't let him finish before I was laughing.
I knew what he was about to say and it gave me joy to know how concerned he was.
"No no. I went to your mom for advice. I mean Tyler has came up to me about your tweet that is now haunting you but no. I didn't talk to him."
He smiles up at me his cheeks a faint shade of pink.
It was adorable how flustered one man could get.
My attention is diverted when the door opens swiftly.
I smile faintly at Heather who looks like she just went through hell.
"Jamie Randolph! I said no fights on this trip."
I laugh softly before taking Jamie's hand and squeezing it gently.
"I'll see you later bub. You listen to the doctors. If not I'm going to get ahold of Jordie and we both know you don't want Jordie to know about you going against your moms word." I threaten before going to walk away.
"Hey hey hey. No. You can't leave without kissing me. I'm injured. You gotta kiss me to make it feel better."
I look at him with soft eyes before kissing him gently.
"Thank you. Thank you for talking me down off the wall."
I shake my head and peck his lips again.
"I'm your girlfriend. It's my job."
