"Babe come on!"
The crisp air of Victoria, British Columbia surrounds me as I look around at the beautiful greenery of the island.
A soft gasp leaves my parted lips as my very big boyfriend tugs on my hand trying to get me to speed up.
I trail behind Jamie apparently a lot less excited than he was. His normal pace had sped up substantially since we landed in Vancouver.
I guess I can understand and relate since yesterday I was the exact same way.
The day in Montreal was a blast for me.
The boys weren't as excited to be there especially since Jordie wasn't there to entertain them. I had a great time catching up with Shea and Max and Carey gave a bunch of great advice on how to deal with my worries about affecting Jamie's game.
Everyone else had a great day resting in the hotel.
"Mom has breakfast ready and we're going to miss it if you don't hurry up!"
A soft laugh leaves my mouth as he grabs my hand all but pulling me to the front door of his childhood home.
"God Jamie I'm going to break my ankle if you If don't slow down."
He just throws me a happy smile while opening the door.
"We're here!"
A few muffled voices respond while we are met with two dogs.
"Babe, this is Juice and Lilli. Lilli is the small one." He chuckles dropping down to pet the dogs.
"Jamie!" I hear a female voice before the footsteps approach us.
"Oh! You're Brie! I've heard so much about you! Ah oh yeah I'm Jessi." The blonde giggles hugging me.
I laugh softly and hug her back.
"Yeah uh I'm Brie."
The blonde leads Jamie and I into the dining room where the rest of the family is.
"Brie, that's my older sister Jennie and her husband, John, and their daughter. You know Jordie but that's him and Jessi, his girl. Meet my dad, Randy and you know mom."
I smile at everyone and wave slightly.
I an normally very fluid and easy going around new people but these weren't just any new people. These were Jamie's family and if they don't like me I am screwed.
I settle myself between Jordie and Jamie finding comfort by being surrounded by hockey players.
I sip on my coffee sending a look to Jamie.
"At least this is acceptable to not put a lid on." I murmur under my breath still annoyed that he doesn't put lids on his coffee cups.
Jamie simple huffs before sipping his coffee.
black coffee with at least an ounce of almond milk in it.
"Oh you get annoyed that he doesn't put a lid on his coffee either?"
I look at Jordie nodding my head.
"I've burnt myself twice because he doesn't put lids on his cup. He has lids he just doesn't use them!"
Jordie chuckles nodding his head in agreeing as if sympathizing with my pain before looking at his brother.
"He's just a twerp like that."
"Oh are you serious? We've only been here for ten minutes and I'm already getting chirped by the both of you?"
Laughter fills the room at Jamie's dismay.
"Hey we are getting along, leave us alone."
"It's okay Jamie. Ask your brother about walking the dogs this morning." Jessi smiles over at the youngest Benn.
Jamie looks at his brother his eyebrow quirked up while a soft laugh leaves his mouth.
"So what happened, Jordie?"
~
Breakfast went perfectly and by late afternoon all of my worries have slipped away.
We had taken a walk through the neighborhood and Jennie let Jamie and I take care of her daughter. We all are now back at the house to rest before we turn on the Toronto vs Tampa game.
I glance down at my phone letting out at gasp.
"Jamie!" I call out since he was in the living room while I was in the kitchen with Jennie, her daughter, and Jessi.
"What is it?" He asks walking in along with Jordie and his mom.
Papa Benn was probably still napping in his chair like he has been since we got back from the walk.
I look up at them a wide grin on my face.
"You win and your in!"
Jamie looks at me before connecting the dots.
"No shit?"
"No shit! You win tomorrow and you're in the playoffs!"
He chuckles pulling me into a hug.
"Oh my god we're so close."
I nod my head before patting his chest.
"Just don't get thrown out of the game again."
He gives me a look before looking at Jordie and his mom who were standing there with joyous looks on their faces.
Montreal was out of a playoff spot already but it seemed that Jordie was more than happy for his brother having this chance.
Heather is looking at Jamie with such pride in her features that it makes me question my own accomplishments as a child for a moment.
"Oh honey! That is so amazing!"
"Mom, we still have to win tomorrow! We're not in yet."
Heather nods her head rolling her eyes for a moment.
"I know that already, you brat."
A soft laugh leaves my mouth as I look up at Jamie.
"I think we will win though. We've got our good luck charm back with us." He murmurs squeezing my hip gently tugging me closer to his body.
"Oh my god that was so cute it was disgusting." Jennie laughs from her spot behind the island sipping on her mocktail.
"It's Jamie of course it's going to be disgusting."
"Jordie! That's mean." Jessi scolds before looking at Jamie with solemn eyes.
"I am so sorry." She adds with a slight pout.
Jamie rolls his eyes at Jordie before nodding to jessi reassuring her that it was okay.
"If he can't take that little bit of chirping he should just quit hockey."
Jamie looks down at me before letting out a soft breath hearing that the Toronto game was about to start.
"Hockey!" He cheers with no emotion before escaping the kitchen and retreating back to the living area.
"The Leafs more importantly." I hum walking to the kitchen with my glass of wine. I settle myself beside Jessi, who was nursing her own glass of wine.
A happy smile forms on my lips when Jennie places her daughter in my lap.
"Hello there, princess." I coo to the 13 month old baby.
My eyes shift up to the tv while I hold the child with one hand and my wine with the other.
"Come on Tampa Bay!"
An audible scoff leaves my mouth hearing Jamie's words.
"Yeah, keep cheering for Tampa Bay. They'll end up choking in the playoffs yet again."
"What do you think Toronto is going to do when they have to go against the Bruins again."
I give Jordie a look slightly confused.
"Excuse me, sir!I thought we were picking on Jamie together. When did this turn into you two hating on my hockey team together?"
Jordie snickers shaking his head.
"Since you started rooting for the leafs."
It takes me a second to realize that he plays for the Habs and it was programmed into him to hate on the leafs.
"Okay whatever. Morgan Rielly is still my favorite defenseman."
"Uh that's mean!" Jordie wines before Jamie laughs.
"At least we all know who her favorite forward is!" Jamie says cockily.
"Yeah, obviously, Auston Matthews is a stud." A small smirk forms on my face before glancing over at my boyfriend.
"Wow that's low."
Jordie chuckles at him.
"You know how it feels now!"
"I'm just joking you big baby."
Jamie continues to pout while looking at me with his big brown eyes.
Stop thinking about how his eyes look like cow eyes! You really need to stay off of Twitter, Brie.
"You know that I like Swedes more. Nylander is an absolute beaut."
Jennie chuckles shaking her head at the banter between me and her siblings.
"I like her. She isn't a suck up."
"Yeah well you ha-"
"Jamie Randolph." Heather hums warningly giving her youngest son a look.
A soft laugh leaves my lips before cuddling Jamie's niece closer towards me as my eyes focus back on the tv.
This was extremely nice.
I could get use to being around this family of Benns.
I could get use to coming here with Jamie.
British Columbia Jamie was a Jamie I really liked.
He was like a kid on Christmas but a relaxed kid on Christmas.
I love seeing him like this.
I mean I love him but this state he was in made it easier to love him.
