Evan's POV
"Have you been writing those letters to yourself?" Heidi asked as Evan rolled himself off his bed. "Dear Evan Hansen, today is going to be a good day and here's why."
"I started one." He replied. It was true, he started one. But he didn't want to finish it. He really didn't like them.
"Those letters are important, honey." Heidi insisted. "They're going to help you build your confidence!"
Evan didn't really want to talk about his social anxiety. Or about confidence. "I guess." He said simply.
"Hey I know!" Heidi sat down next to Evan as he put on his socks. "You can go around asking people to sign your cast!"
"Perfect." He said it sarcastically, but his mother didn't catch it.
"I'm proud of you already! Now go, or else you'll be late!" She shooed Evan out his room.
Evan closed the door behind him and heard mumbling in his room. "Does anybody have a map? Does anybody maybe happen to know how the hell to do this?" Heidi whispered.
He ignored that and stepped out of his house.
Next stop, school. Where everything will change.

Connor's POV"If Connor's not coming, I'm going without him!" Zoe warned.
Connor grumbled and pulled himself downstairs again."What are you so excited about?" Connor asked as Zoe bounced around. "School is hell."
Zoe sighed dreamily. "But Alana will be there~" she said. Connor snickered.
"Going to see your girlfriend?" He asked as they started down the rode.
Zoe blushed. "N-no! She's n-not my uh m-my gir-girlfriend!" She stuttered.
Connor knew he would have plenty of time to tease her about her crush later. But now, they've already arrived at school.
That was quick. Way too quick.
Zoe skipped off into the halls. Sighing, Connor made his way to his locker.
But not before a certain asshole shouted right in his ear. "GOOD MORNING CONNOR!!" Jared shouted.
Connor glared daggers at him. "Lovin' the new hairdo. Very shook shooter chic." Jared commented.
Then, a blonde boy wearing a blue striped polo shirt ran next to Jared.
"Jared!" He said. "That was pretty mean."
Jared rolled his eyes and walked away, but not before he said, "Freak." To Connor. Yes, 'pretty mean'.
"I-I'm s-sorry about h-him." The boy stuttered. Connor would normally glare at them, but he he simply just stared at the boy. No emotions showing.
"Well thank you so much for saying four words to me! World record broken!" Connor said.
The boy gave a nervous laugh. "I-I'm uh E-Evan." He said.
"I'm Connor. Hello E-Evan."
"N-no, not-not E-Evan. It-it's j-just Evan."
Connor felt a sudden wave of déjà vu. As if he had this exact conversation with someone. Someone who's name was also Evan.
Someone who stuttered a lot. Someone who looked.....cute.
No. No. No not cute. Just uh.....cool. Yeah cool looking.
Evan tilted his head in confusion. Connor realized that he had been staring into the blue eyes for....how long? Long enough to make him uncomfortable, that's for sure.
"You stutter a lot."
"Sorry."
"Nothing to be ashamed of."
"Sorry."
"And you say sorry a lot."
"Sorry!"
"You're doing it again!"
"Sorry!!"
There goes that feeling again. He chuckled. "We better head to class." Connor said.
Evan nodded and looked at his schedule. "I h-have math first, what ab-about you?" He asked.
"Same. Guess we'll be in the same class. Now, come on." Connor grabbed Evan's hand and pulled him in the direction of he classroom.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that Evan had a red hue on his face. Connor looked at their hands intwined and blushed too.
However, Evan didn't let go. He simply held onto Connor's arm tighter.
Did I just make a friend? Is he a friend? Can I consider him as a friend? Hopefully.
Together, the two walked into math class.
Together.
