So apparently I just really love long last friends for some stupid reason?
Evan's POV
"Have you been writing those letters to yourself?" Heidi asked. Evan nodded, muttering an 'I started one' and grabbed his backpack.
"Those letters are important, honey. They're gonna help you build your confidence!" She patted Evan's shoulder happily.
"Let's have an optimistic outlook, okay? It's your senior year, we can make a new start!" She smiled warmly. "You can go around and ask the other kids to sign your cast!"
"Perfect, I'll t-try," he said and walked downstairs.
"I'm proud of you already!"
"Oh...good."
Evan sighed and gave Heidi a quick goodbye before walking to school. Before, of course, being confronted by Jared Kleinman the second he stepped foot into hel-school.
"Holy fuck what happen there?" He asked, pointing at the cast on Evan's arm. "Jacking off to much?"
Evan punched Jared's arm lightly, glaring at him. Before he could protest, Jared had called out, "Hey Connor! Love the new hair length, very school shooter chic!"
Evan's head jolted up at the sound of 'Connor'. His hopes soared when he saw an all too familiar face.
Connor didn't say anything. He stared at Jared, expression blank.
"It was a joke," Jared said finally.
"Oh, I'm laughing, can't you tell?" Connor's voice was laced with sarcasm. "Am I not laughing hard enough for you?!"
Jared chuckled nervously. "Y-your such a freak," he finger-gunned Connor before walking away.
Evan glanced over at Connor, chuckling a bit himself seeing his old best friend's sarcasm again. He forgot how funny he was.
He also forgot how violent Connor was. That was a mistake.
The brunette whirled his head towards Evan. "What the fuck are you laughing at?" He exclaimed.
"W-what? No I-"
"You think I'm a freak, too?!"
"No Con, l-listen to m-"
"I'm not the freak, you're the ducking freak!"
And then he was on the ground. Connor had shoved him. Evan's best friend, had pushed him.
Tears prickled at the ends of his eyes.
"Ev! What's wrong?" Connor asked, running to his friend.
Evan was curled up, hugging his knees and crying. He lifted his head and saw Connor sit next to him, placing a hand on his.
"Con, a-am I weird? Am I a mess up? A f-freak?" He asked, quietly.
Connor looked taken aback. "What?! No! Why would you ever think that?!"
Evan smiled sadly.
"Kurt and R-Ram. They're doing it again. It h-hurts, Con."
Connor hugged Evan, letting him sob into his shoulder. "Shhh, it's okay Ev. Don't listen to them. They're wrong. You're amazing. Now com'on, let's go play!"
Evan smiled, a genuine smile, and following Connor to the playground.
"You'll a-always be my friend, right?" He asked Connor.
