"Heyyy" Arabella greeted me, leaning against the row of lockers as I took some books out of my locker.
She had dyed her hair again, it was a pastel-purple colour, and it suited her well.
"Hi" I said smiling, kissing her quickly.
"How was Math class?" She asked.
"Easy. Boring." I sighed, closing my locker.
"Are you doing anything tonight?" She questioned.
"Not that I know of." I replied.
"D'you wanna come over? My parents are out and I've got nothing to do" she informed me.
I was about to agree, but then I locked eyes with Luke.
"Uh- actually, I might be busy. Why don't you hang out with Luke tonight?" I said. Nothing made me more angry than the thought of Luke spending time with Arabella after the way he's treated her, but I have to make them become friends again, or he's gonna 'smash my face in.'
"What? Are you kidding Cal? You know Luke and I aren't speaking at the moment. Why do you want me to hang out with Luke, Don't you want to spend time with me?" She asked, frowning.
"N- no, baby, that's not what I meant-" I cooed, placing my hands on her hips. "-I was just thinking. You and Luke were so close, you were like siblings, and now you're not even talking, I thought you might want to re-kindle the friendship" I said quickly.
"Well I don't. Not yet. We're better off keeping our distance for now." She explained.
"Hm, ok. Um, how about you come over mine tonight instead? My parents aren't home either, and we always go to yours." I asked. I knew that if I went to Arabella's Luke would know because they live down the same street. If she comes to my house hopefully he won't find out, and he won't want to punch me.
I know it seems ridiculous that I have to tiptoe round and stay somewhat hidden with my girlfriend to make sure her "bestfriend" doesn't hate me, but it's the only way things are gonna work out.
If Luke beats me up, my parents are going to make me move schools again, they're always worrying about me being bullied because of past experiences, but I really don't want to move schools, not now that I've got Arabella.
"Yeah, ok." She agreed, smiling.
"Ok, cool. Meet me by my car after school?" I requested.
"Ok. I'm gonna go have a cigarette quickly before 4th period starts. You coming?" She said.
"Uh, yeah, ok." I replied.
We walked outside to the courtyard, watching students rush to their next lessons.
Arabella pulled out a pack of cigarettes from her pocket and lit one.
"Do you want one?" She offered, pointing the packet in my direction.
"No thank you." I declined.
"I'm so pissed off about the new rules. I can't believe I won't be able to smoke at school after next week. This is ridiculous." She ranted, lighting her cigarette.
"I don't think any of the rules are particularly irrational. They all contribute to making this a better school." I said defensively.
"Whatever" she said, sighing.
She finished off her cigarette whilst we stood in silence.
"We've got Biology with Mr Morrisey next, right?" I asked.
