To Seek a Show

Ah, this picture. The events after this day have resulted in a multitude of hypotheses for what happened here. Only those within this visual know for sure, but some say there are some secret messages hidden around between His Majesty of old and the leading lady that detail it all. One day, we hope to find them.

Legend says that the King was an avid fan of theater, particularly intrigued by the talents of the tiny folk. However, unlike his gaudier, bolder brother who ruled the other half of the area and barged into wherever he wanted, as his power gave him that right, this gentle soul never wanted to impose anywhere he didn't think he was desired to be, simply setting laws and taxations from afar as he did to everyone, no matter their size. This particular troupe, one of the, if not the, most popular group, heard of his fascination and praises, and, through the help of inner workers of the castle, they arranged a private performance of their current show for him and a few of his familiars. We can't prove for sure, but with the current, tall, ruling family's avidness and kindness toward the smaller (and the rumor of them having size-shifting powers in secret), that shining star might have been this gentle giant's queen. Who knows?

As sweet as that sounds, those from the brother's lands have said that His Majesty was just as commanding as his brother, and, despite his soft smile here, the troupe might have been forced to perform behind that frame repeatedly. Sure, they were pampered in every other regard to keep them there, but not being allowed to leave unless sickness overcame them certainly isn't a nice way to live. But, given history, it's not that unlikely. Why don't we know what happened for sure?

Today, that frame and shadowbox are redecorated every season with dioramas and projections for different events and holidays, but some workers and tourists have sworn they've heard cries coming from behind the gilded boundary. I personally would adore the former story, but which seems more logical to you?
