May 15th and June 12th

A couple of months passed after the dinner at Serena's house. Red always kept Serena's song in his mind; although he would never admit to it. Cynthia never brought up her confession again and so neither did Red; and their friendship continued on. Serena constantly talked with Delia, slowly thinking of ways to get Red to forgive her again; never did she stop thinking about that night on the beach. Life was good for the both of them, at least it was until that fateful day; on May 15th.

Ash/Red

"Team Plasma has been caught..." Steven told the young champion, "But something else happened as well..."

"What?" Red asked, "And shouldn't we be waiting for Cynthia?"

"That's the thing Red..." the older man looked down at the floor, "They were only caught because a sacrifice was made. Cynthia gave her own life to save the world."

Red looked at the man in shock, Cynthia had gone on a mission. It was supposed to be simple and harmless; just looking for clues to Plasma's whereabouts.

"She found them and called it in. But they caught her and when we found her; she was gone Red." Steven explained, "I'm sorry you had to find out like this, I know you were close."

Reds eyes flashed, burning a bright red with anger; but then it faded to a dull and dreary blue. A tear slipped from his eye and splashed against the ground.

"She left a note in her house; addressed to you." Steven handed the boy a small, white envelope.

Red opened the paper up,

'Dear Red,

I hope that this letter finds you well and safe, if it's with you then that means that I'm probably gone. Don't be sad for my sake, you need to keep living your life no matter what. If I'm dead then I do hope I took out Plasma with me, and if not then I want you to leave it to Steven and the others.

Red, I know that it's sad. But just because I'm gone doesn't mean I'm not with you anymore. You're my best friend and I hope that you believe me when I say it doesn't bother me that I'll be gone when you see this. A few days before I wrote this I met someone, or at least met them formally. Serena Yvonne was her name, she's known you longer than I have so you'd better be nice  to her. If you're not nice then I swear to Arceus I'm gonna haunt you for the rest of your life.

I'm going to miss you old friend, but I just want you to know that no matter what; I love you. I don't think it's romantic love though, I think it's more of you're like my brother. I never got to meet my actual brother since I lost my whole family when I was little. So I guess you've always been like a fill-in for him. sorry about that.

Goodbye, Ash Ketchum.

-Your friend, Cynthia'

The letter fell from Reds hand as he felt the tears continue to fall, never once stopping.

 Serena

On May 15th, Calem was bailed out of prison. His father had done it, along with a mysterious helper. A knock on Serena's door brought her out of her thoughts on that day, and when she opened it; Calem stood there with a thoughtful look on his face. Two police officers stood on either side of the boy and they walked him away when Serena slammed the door in his face.

Her mother comforted the girl as she cried that night, fearing the future she had once looked forward to. They called Delia that night as well, and told her of the news. The woman was terrified when she heard Calems name, having heard more than enough she had hung up on them.
