Jean POV
(Name) turned around after a moment and yelped when she noticed me standing there gawking at her, bringing one arm up to cover her exposed chest. Her face quickly flushed a deep red and the surprised look turned to one of anger and I hastily turned around to make a break for the tent to give her some privacy again. Barely a second after I turned my back to her, the hard bar of soap connected with the back of my head and I stumbled over my own feet, bringing a hand up to rub the back of my head. I couldn't catch my balance and fell to my hands and knees, wasting no time trying to stand again as I crawled back into the tent before she found a rock or something to throw at me. Sheesh, it wasn't like I meant to see her like that, not that I regretted standing there and staring at her until she caught me either...
I sat inside the tent for another twenty minutes or so, but it felt like forever until a hand reached in and grabbed my arm, yanking me out of the tent. "Hey!" I complained, standing upright when she stopped pulling on my arm and placed her hands on her hips, glaring at me. She was fully dressed again but damn did she look pissed. I raised my hands in surrender with a sigh at the stare down I was receiving. "Look, I'm sorry. Okay? I didn't expect you to be out here taking a bath." (Name) only huffed at my apology but she did look a little less angry now. "You're making the fire and finding us some breakfast by yourself. If you don't mess it up I might think about forgiving you for being a peeping Tom."
I rolled my eyes but didn't argue. I guess I did kind of deserve the rude attitude. After all, I should have just turned away and given her privacy again right away but instead, I'd stood there like a moron practically drooling over the sight of her bathing in the stream. "Fine, whatever. Princess."
I could feel her eyes on me as I walked off toward the woods to go and collect some more firewood to build us another fire.
Reader POV
I sat down by our fire pit and sighed, kicking my legs out in front of me and leaning back on my hands to look up at the sky. Maybe I was a little harsh on him. It wasn't like he had noticed that I was out here taking a bath beforehand. He hadn't lied about it being accidental. But he also appeared to have been staring for a decent length of time by the time I caught him and that was what upset me. I suppose I should just forgive him. We are dating now after all. And it wasn't like he'd done anything other than look... Maybe I was just overreacting to it all. I closed my eyes and just sat there like that for a while.
I cracked an eye open when I heard Jean's footsteps approach the fire pit and sat up properly to look up at him. "You still mad?" He asked me curiously, setting the sticks in the pit and making direct eye contact with me to see if I looked angry. "Not really... I'm sorry for hitting you with the bar of soap. It looked like it hurt." He awkwardly rubbed the back of his head at that and waved his hand. "I deserved that much. I shouldn't have stared for so long." I frowned but at least it seemed he wasn't angry with my overreacting. "Do you want help finding something for breakfast? I forgive you, so, you don't gotta do it by yourself." I said a bit awkwardly, casting my gaze down at the pile of sticks that had yet to be lit. "That'd be nice. Do you want to go find some berries? I'll check the fish trap." He suggested, his voice taking a happier tone now that things seemed to be okay once more and I nodded, pushing myself up to go off and find us some berries to have for breakfast along with, hopefully, some fish.
Day 2, Evening
Jean POV
After a rather uneventful day of gathering and fishing it started to get dark and (Name) and I decided to stay up a bit later tonight to just sit by the fire and stargaze to relax some. By lunchtime, she had seemed to completely forgive me and even forget about the whole bath incident that morning and I was really thankful for that because it meant we could continue as normal. I stretched my legs out in front of me and leaned back on my hands, letting my head fall back as my eyes followed some of the ash from the fire up into the sky until I was watching the sparkling stars in the night sky. It was chilly but the fire put off enough heat to keep me from shivering so, really, it was just perfect at this moment. The silence between (Name) and I was comfortable and watching the stars with her put me at ease, like nothing else in the world existed except us, the stars and this moment in time.
"Jean look! A shooting star." She spoke up suddenly and pointed at the streak that disappeared just as fast as it appeared across the sky above us. I scanned the sky for another and smile when a few more streaked across the black night sky. They certainly were an odd sight, one that didn't happen very often. "You know what my mom used to tell me about shooting stars?" I asked her, keeping my voice quiet as we watched the display above us. She scooted closer to me and leaned her head against my shoulder, keeping her eyes on the stars. "What?" "She told me that if you make a wish when you see one, it will come true. I don't really believe it but it couldn't hurt to try it? You want to?" I glanced over at her in the dim light of the fire and saw a bright smile form on her lips. "Yeah, that sounds fun. But you know wishes don't come true if you tell someone else. I won't be telling you what I wish for." She teased and sat up properly to clasp her hands together, eyes closed as she faced the sky.
I chuckled a little and shook my head, doing the same though I didn't wish for anything in particular. I didn't know what to wish for to be completely honest. I just wanted to have a little fun and she had seemed interested and excited even when I told her about this tradition my mother used to do when I was younger. When I opened my eyes again and turned to look at (Name), I flinched back slightly, startled to see her right in my face. "Are you trying to give me a heart attack? Geez." She laughed but continued to stare at me intently and I raised an eyebrow at her, a bit confused. "What, is there something on my face?" "No, I was just wondering if maybe I could get my wish to come true right away." She gave an exasperated sigh when I didn't appear to understand what she was getting at.
"You're really dense sometimes, horseface." She grumbled though she didn't actually sound upset as she reached one hand out to grab the front of my shirt and pull me closer to her. "I don't get it, what did you wish for?" "If I told you, it wouldn't come true." She breathed in a whisper, touching our noses together as she spoke and I could feel her breath on my lips. Okay, I got the point now... Maybe I was denser than I thought. When she didn't close the distance to kiss me first, I slipped a hand up behind her head and gently pulled her closer until my lips pressed against hers with light pressure.
She pulled away from me before it could go much further than that and I frowned, a bit disappointed now but she kissed my cheek and laughed sweetly so I suppose I couldn't really be upset with the fact it hadn't gone further. It had still happened and I was definitely happy about getting to kiss her. And besides, we were dating so there would be plenty of other opportunities for me to kiss her more... Right?
