Sleep Upon the Empty Midnight Sky

This semester I am taking a creative writing class and right now it's the poetry unit. So this is a villanelle poem that I wrote for that class. For those of you who aren't quite sure what a villanelle is, a good example is the poem "Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night" which can be heard in the movie Interstellar. (Watch the added clip)

So I hope you enjoy my villanelle!!

Sleep upon the empty midnight sky,
Bask in its pale thin light.
Then watch the dawn awake upon the tide.

The winds blow cold with cloudy gaze,
As the day turns into starless night;
So sleep upon the empty midnight sky.

The lights go out from the stormy gale,
They flicker in the moonlight before the day;
Then watch the dawn awake upon the tide.

When daybreak comes the rains pour down
To drench the world in tears and sorrow.
Then to sleep upon the empty midnight sky.

Before too long the winds and rains die down,
And the sun arises to face the day.
Don't sleep upon the empty midnight sky,
But watch the dawn awake upon the tide.
