"I like potatoes." Said a voice from the door.
I looked over the see Zula leaning on the doorway. She looked as if she was never dead. I jumped out of my seat, running as fast as I possibly could, the cast slowing me down. I tackled her to the ground, the fall cracked the prison around my left foot but, I didn't care.
"Woah there, lil Missy." She laughed.
"You're- you're supposed to be dead. I-I felt you're body grow cold." I said standing.
"Magic!" She smiled, waving her hands.
"No amount of healing could have saved you! Hashie said-" I rambled.
"I said magic, not healing." She said pushing herself up, "C'mon, dinners waiting."
Dinner was great. We had all kinds of elven foods like: stuffed lioka, tossed veggies, fruit salad, and tofu! We stole that from the humans. Plant elves are vegetarian. Our archers only kill monsters, which would be used as fertilizer. For desert, we had cherry and cocoa bean pie. After I ate, I followed Zula on her rounds. She normally goes to the pegasi stables on Thursdays.
As we entered the stables, the winged horses said their hellos. I skipped ahead of Zula, going to each stall and saying hello to all of the pegasi.
"I want to ride one," I said, turning to Zula, "Can I? Please?"
"What about your leg?" She said, "You need a new cast."
"My leg feels fine!" I said, shaking it around.
I wasn't lying. My leg felt so new, I could put all of my weight on it. I stood on my left foot, lifting my right leg for proof. Putting my foot down, I gave Zula the biggest puppy dog eyes I could manage. If the look affected her in any way, she didn't show it. She kept her face firm.
"Pleeease?" I begged.
"Kyanna," She sighed, "you know it's not up to me. We would have to ask the grooms for help and your father for permission."
I groaned, looking into her hazel eyes that had dark brown hair falling into them. The hair waved around her caramel skin, complementing it perfectly. Zula was one of the few plant elves with brown eyes. They had more power over the earth than plants themselves. But, I have always wanted to ride on the back of a pegasus. Feel the wind against my pale freckled face, my fire colored eyes closed as it whipped back my bright red hair. I perked up.
"No one has to know! You can teach me to ride!" I persuaded.
"What?! I can't ride a pegasus! I'm part of the land calvary not the sky calvary!" She said, shaking her head.
"Oh come on! It can't be that different." I continued to push.
"You'd be surprised.." she muttered.
"Please?"
"No."
"Pretty please?"
"No."
"Pretty please with a cherry on to-"
"KYANNA!" She shouted, using her training voice, causing me to flinch, "I said no. Flying a winged horse untrained is dangerous. You'd be putting yourself, myself, and the pegasus in danger! Do you know how angry His Majesty would be if he found out you broke your neck falling from the sky? He'd have my head! And probably the pegasi's too!"
I opened my mouth to speak but, she cut me off.
"Go back to the palace. I'll see you after my rounds." She said, turning away from me.
"B-But Zula.." I started.
"Go." She demanded.
My shoulders slumped as I left the stables. I stared at the castle, my home, before turning my back on it, walking into the woods. My second favorite place. Sucking in the fresh air, I walked between the trees, running my hands along their rough bark. Any normal plant elf would be surrounded by animals as soon as one stepped into the woods. But, the moment I did every animal scattered. I watched as the last creature scattered away and everything went silent. It continued as I walked on, even the plants seemed to lean away from me.
I continued walking until I heard a crashing sound. Stopping in my tracks, I tilted my head towards the sound.
'Is that running water?' I asked myself.
I wasn't so sure. I didn't know of a river or anything in this forest. I continued towards the sound. A clearing spread a few miles wide. In the middle of the clearing, there was waterfall that fell from s cliff into a small lake.
I stared, awestruck as the water started rippling. Taking an involuntary step back, I watched as a dark blue head popped out of the water. I slowly inched into the clearing. The creature made it's way to shore, shaking it's mane happily. As it stretched it's wings, I gasped at the beauty of the pegasus. It's body was a dark blue and it's legs were an ombre of dark blue to pale blue. The wings were a light blue, the tips of it's feathers were silver along with it's mane, tail, and hooves.
"Wow.." I gaped
The winged horse's head snapped toward me and it reeled onto its hind hooves. As it landed, a large wave of water rushed over me. I gasped, choking on the water. I was trapped in darkness, with no way out. My chest ached, indicating that I needed air. I kicked my legs, slowly starting forward. The wave seemed to follow me as my eyesight began to dim.
