Irene's grandmother Sooyoung, better known as Leader Shoo, doesn't look a day older than 37, thanks to her witchcraft. But, Seulgi has always felt that Leader Shoo had the most permanent resting bitch face, and she'd blame it on plastic surgery if anyone asked for her opinion.
All four girls are standing straight, dressed in their red lace gowns and crowns, on their front porch awaiting the visit of their leader. When Shoo does arrive, with Irene's younger sister Yerim behind her, Seulgi resists the urge to roll her eyes, while Wendy nudges her and reminds her to play nice. "Girls!" Shoo greets, walking down the line offering her hand, each girl bowing and kissing the back of it. "It's been such a long time."
"Welcome to our home, Shoo." They all greet together.
"I'm exhausted from my travels. Joohyun, my room please."
"Yes, this way, grandmother." Irene opens the door for Shoo before escorting her to her room for the week. Once she's gone, with Yeri following, Seulgi groans.
"Let the week from hell begin."
After seeing her room, and resting for a bit, Shoo demands a complete tour of their home, looking through their herbs, potion ingredients, candles, crystals and gems. "Very well then... where are your familiars?"
"Myself and Wendy still do not have one," Irene speaks up, "Joy recently required a dog, Haetnim."
"A dog familiar? Well, is it a bloodhound?"
"A maltese."
"How useless. What about you, Seulgi?"
"Nothing official, but I've come in contact with a cat. However, he does need training...but I think I'll call him Jaebum." The smile on Seulgi's face is teasing, and Wendy and Joy can't help but snicker.
"I surely hope you're not up to one of your games." Shoo complains, "I've been talking to other covens, you know, and I heard there's to be a wedding soon. Seohyun and that warlock Younghaw! Exciting isn't it?"
"Very." Wendy plays along.
"Of course that leads to people asking me when my own girls will settle down and continue the bloodline.... And I can't help but wonder the same thing." Seulgi debates if she should spill the beans about Jaebum now or wait. It's tempting to do it now, and guarantee that the old hag has a horrible stay, but judging by the look Irene throws her way, now is not a good time. "So... how are the preparations for the sacrifice?"
--
"I hate her." Seulgi complains to Jaebum later that night. She and her fellow witches had to endure two hours of lecturing about sacrifice rituals, as if they've never participated in one. Seulgi couldn't wait to escape, fleeing to Jaebum the second Shoo went to bed for the night.
"Why do you hate her so much?" Jaebum questions, arms wrapping around her frame as she straddles his lap.
"She's judgmental, entitled, the true definition of a witch. Too stuck in her traditional ways. Do you know we have to wear our coven attire when she's around? Or at least the crown, which is stupid! I usually keep it for rituals, official coven events, but she's so extra."
"I bet you're pretty cute in your coven attire." Jaebum flirts.
"You're just saying that." Seulgi tells him, leaning forward to press a kiss against his lips. "You know, she'd totally kill me if she knew I was here."
"Why did you come here?"
"I wanted to see you." Seulgi admits, "Don't you want to see me? A week is a very long time."
