Chapter 26

It had been two weeks since the incident and Emil and I had gotten up early to go visit Matthias. We made the effort to go get some flowers for Matthias: a bouquet of Marguerite daisies.

As we walked into the hospital and made our way to Matthias' room I glance down at the flower in my arms. "Emil, I'm sorry about what happened yesterday. It wasn't your problems to get involved, not yours not Lukas," my hand tracing over the stem of one of the many daisies wrapped in a transparent red plastic sheen.

The vibrant plastic in contrast against the vivid white flowers that turned the daisies into a playful sight for the eyes. Something I knew Matthias would enjoy. He had a soft spot for these flowers due to the fact his mom has a garden of them at home.

I felt Emil delicately take hold of my hand off the flower and gave a small squeeze of reassurance. "You do know you shouldn't be apologizing for everything? Especially if they are out of your control or not your fault."

Usually, I'd hear those words from Lukas and it usually ends in me apologizing for apologizing too much.

This time was no different but before I could say anything in response to Emil, I am taken aback by an almost healthy looking Matthias stuffing his face with hospital chocolate pudding. "Hey, you guys! Glad to see some familiar faces here!"

In pure joy, I don't even question anything and chuck the flowers at Emil before running to Matthias; embracing him in a hug.

"You're ok!" my voice reflecting my relief and happiness

"I-I won't be if you don't get off me y/n," Matthias says in agony causing me to quickly let go and apologize.

"Sorry! I just got so happy. You have no idea how relieved I am about you being ok. I'm so sorry this happened. I let it go too far. I should have done something sooner."

Standing up again, Emil walks next to me and hands Matthias the flowers, earning a bright goofy smile from him.

"Oh wow! I didn't know you knew I liked these flowers, Emil!" putting his pudding cup down at the table to his side, Matthias accepted the flowers and sniffed them.

"Actually it was y/n. She said these were your favorite so we brought them for you."

I nodded in agreement with Emil and sat at the foot of the hospital bed with Matthias. "I'm so happy you're ok. I was so worried I'd never get to see you. I'm sorry Lukas isn't here but he hasn't been able to bring himself to visit. I think he took this accident worse than any of us."

Matthias' face fell and he looked a bit guilty, "h-he cares that much?"

Emil and I nodded our heads towards Matthias. "He took up so many extra credit projects to fill his schedule because every time he would think about you he'd just break down," Emil's voice sounding heartbroken over the condition of his brother.

"I didn't think Lukas would care about me considering he always calls me an idiot."

I shrug my shoulder, "Emil we should call Lukas and tell him about Matthias. I think that would really bring up his spirits. He'd be so relieved."

And with that, an hour later Lukas came in all frantic. Once he saw Matthias relief flooded his face as he went over to the broken boy. Resisting the urge to hug Matthias after remembering his fragile state, Lukas smiled at the Dane.

"Lukas, you're smiling!" Matthias attitude went from good to great when he saw Lukas, the sight made me smile and I realized this is the first time Lukas had smiled at Matthias.

"Well I should be angry at how stupid you are to have gotten shot but seeing you actually alive is a way stronger feeling."

I felt like our come to a resolution and then I realized there are more problems we need to handle, and my relationship with my parents is the first one I should try and fix.
