“So, what are you going to show the Game Makers?” I asked Cato, turning to look at him while I continued to pick at my finger nails. I really need to stop doing that.

“I’ll probably just use the sword. It’s what I’m best at I suppose. What about you?” He asked in return, putting his hand over mine to stop my nervous habit.

I smiled up at him meekly. “I guess I’m just going to throw some knives, I’m not really talented with anything else.” I said, my heart rate rising in panic. What if I got a bad score? What if I didn’t get any sponsors?

“You do have pretty good aim; I know you didn’t miss when you aimed for my heart.” He said, and tilted my chin up, kissing me lightly.

I don’t care how cheesy that line was, it made my heart flutter.

I was the one to pull away this time.

“Come on, we should head down.” I murmured, reaching out for his hand, which he let me take, and I led him towards the elevator.

In training, he was a cold hearted killer, around me, he was the sweetest, most caring gentleman you could ever find; and I loved him for it.

We got down to the hall outside of the training center, to find most of the other tributes were already sitting on the wall in the order that they were to go in.

Marvel beckoned the two of us over. I sat next to him, and Cato sat beside me, not letting go of my hand, well, it wasn’t like I didn’t want him to.

“Glimmer, District 1.” I heard the announcer’s voice, and without a word, Glimmer rose, and walked through those doors.

Marvel went next, and I felt Cato give my hand a reassuring squeeze before he let go once my name was announced. I looked at him, the panic already rising in my chest, as I stood and made my way into the training center.

I walked over to stand in front of the platform where the Game Makers were seated.

“Clove, District 2.” I announced, surprised that my voice didn’t sound at all scared, when in reality, I was petrified.

Seneca Crane; the head game maker, signaled me to start with a subtle nod of his head.

I made my way over to the knife throwing station, grabbing a handful of knives, ranging in all different shapes, sizes, and types.

I walked over to the fifty foot mark and within thirty seconds, I had all 12 of them straight in the center of the targets.

I heard the scratching of pens, my fear bubbling up inside me once again.

What if they expected more? What if I didn’t do enough?

These questions I was asking myself however were pointless. I was dismissed, and I walked out of the back door, towards the elevator, and back up to the second floor.

I heard the beeping of the elevator as it stopped at the floor and immediately knew who it was. I made my way over in a brisk walk, stopping as I waited for the doors to open.

The metal doors slid open, and Cato stepped out.

”Hey Clover, how’d you do?” He asked, and I giggled. I don’t care if I act really girly around him anymore. Plus, I really liked the nickname.

“I don’t really know, I don’t think that I impressed them all that much.” I said, my mood dropping slightly.

“Yeah, I think they might have gotten bored with the whole sword thing, but I bet that they loved you.” He murmured, hugging me, his chin resting on my head.

I sighed, because I really didn’t know if the game makers liked me. Oh well, I guess that I’ll just have to wait and see.
