I woke up, struggling to open my tired eyes. I was lying down on my bed, and when I sat up; I realized that Cato was gone.
I didn’t know how I was supposed to feel about that. The only thing that I did know was my hatred that was boiling over inside of me for the blond haired girl from District 1.
I determined right there and then, I was going to be the one to kill her.
I showered quickly, brushed my teeth, and dressed, stepping onto the elevator without speaking to anyone. I pressed the button to the training center floor, and down I went.
Most everyone else was still asleep, and the sky outside was still dark.
There was absolutely no one in the training center, but I didn’t care. I walked straight over to the knife throwing station again, standing next to the wall of throwing knives, sending each of them into all of the targets.
As soon as I had hit all of the targets, I turned around, sending the knives into the plastic dummies that had been replaced last night.
I heard the door close quietly, and I whipped around, my heart and adrenalin pumping, as I sent my final knife flying at the intruder.
Enobaria ducked her head at the last second, the knife driving itself deep into the wall behind her.
“You really have got to stop doing that you know.” She said, flashing her teeth at me once again.
“Sorry, it’s a habit.” I murmured, my gaze moving to my feet.
She grunted, walking over to me, and leaving the knife in the wall behind her.
“That kid really does love you.” She said, looking, not at me, but at all the knives stuck hilt deep into the center of anything I found could have been used as a target.
I didn’t say anything, just continued to look at the floor beneath my feet.
We both stood there in silence for a few minutes, each of us not daring to look at the other.
“I just came down here to see where you were, I woke up and you were gone. ‘boy was worried.” She said, finally lifting her head to look at me. I made no attempt to show any acknowledgement of her however.
“By the way, try not to destroy the place.” She turned and walked back to the elevator.
I sighed, and sat against the wall, my head in my hands.
What was I supposed to do?
I decided to try and push questions like this out of my mind and decided to try another station. So, without retrieving the knives, I walked over to the obstacle course. I found myself at the rock wall. I had always had a fear of heights after I had fallen off of the rock wall at home and broken my hip when I was twelve. This one was so much bigger, but, I suppose now is as good a time as any to try again.
I took in a slow, and steady breath, placing my left hand on the first ledge of the large cliff-like structure, and began to climb.
Without daring to look down, I began to climb, quickly. My confidence level rising the higher I went.
I was just about to reach the top, when my right foot slipped off of the small ledge, and I began to fall.
