Cato and I begin our way out. I can feel the lose fabric of my clothing against my joints. Was I losing weight? I must be, I've barely eaten anything the entire games. My head still hurts, I realize not from the tracker jacker venom, since that had already passed, but from hunger.
I staggered, as my stomach heaved. I felt like I desperately needed to throw up, but with no food in my stomach, there was nothing I could do but double over with each convulsion.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Cato asked, running, well more likely, hobbling over to my side.
"N-nothing. I'm just hungry. I g-" I managed to croak before another convulsion wracked my feeble frame.
I felt so weak. Why didn't I eat anything? I mean, we had all of the supplies, but I'd never really touched anything.
Cato slides a pack off of his shoulder. Where'd he get that. We left everything at the tree, I thought. He must have gone back to get it.
He unzipped it, pulling out a pack of dried fruit. He handed it to me, and I tore it open. Why did it take me so long to realize how starving I was?
I sat down against a tree trunk. I really didn't want to risk falling on my face. I was NOT going to be the entire laughing stock of Panem. No. That wasn't going to happen.
I finished the dried fruit quickly, and Cato also hands me a pack of dried meat. I eat a few pieces of that.
My hip bones hurt, and I soon noticed how prominent they were. A lot of girls say that they want to be skinny. Yeah, no you don't. It really isn't fun. At all. I was slim before the games, but now I looked like a science lesson. I could count every rib, and my cheeks were extremely hallow. God, I must look like death.
"Do you have any water?" I asked, my throat was dry, and it burned.
Cato shook his head. "No, sorry. We'll get some from the supplies and get some more from the lake. Okay?" He says, helping me to my feet.
"Okay." I breath quietly, as I take his hand, and we begin our way back towards the Lake.
When we finally can see the cornucopia, we are standing on a hill overlooking the clearing. I see both Marvel and Ian there, but not Peeta.
"Where's District 12?" I ask, turning my head to look at Cato.
"He-um, saved Fire Girl, so, I cut him. Didn't his picture show up?" He asked me. Oh right, he'd been asleep still when the anthem played.
"No, so, he's still alive. But, come on, I'm really thirsty, and I bet you are too." I say, taking his hand and leading him back towards the pile of supplied by the lake.
I notice the uneven piles of earth before Cato does. "Ian! What's this?" I call over to him. He jerks towards us.
"Oh! Don't step there! I reburied the mines. You can only get to the supplies through here!" He says, motioning with his arm to where he was sitting.
We slowly made our way over. Careful where we placed our feet. When we finally reached Ian, I sat down on a crate next to him, while Cato carefully made his way over to the supplies.
"So what'd you show the game-makers? Did you like, create a bomb out of the training equipment?" I asked, curious. I took note of how scratchy my voice sounded.
"Yeah, kind of." Says Ian with a slight smile.
"So you re-activated the bombs from the platforms? How?" I ask, and Ian looks overjoyed. He begins explaining all about wires, triggers, explosions, as I sit there and pretend to listen. I was trying to, I really was, but every single word that he said went over my head.
Cato returned with two bottles of water, and another bag of dried meat. I refused the food, which Cato dug into eagerly, but accepted the water happily. I took small sips, as to not upset my stomach, slowly allowing the cold liquid into my system.
He finally finished, and I nodded my head as if I understood, which of course I didn't. Weapons were my specialty. Ian could keep to his explosives.
The pounding in my head begins to slowly recede, and I am able to fall asleep.
------------------------------------------
I awaken to see the sun just reaching it's peak. I then turn my direction to see Marvel packing up a supply bag.
"Where are you going?" I ask.
"WE are going hunting. Hopefully find Fire Girl so I can get my hands on her. I want to see her face in the sky tonight." he says coldly. I then notice that Cato is standing a little ways off, a pack on his shoulders and a sword in his hand.
I get up, make sure that I still have all of my knives, and walk towards him. Hopefully we don't run into the big guy from 11. He seems to be the biggest threat in the games now. I hope that someone else finishes him off.
We head back into the forest again, leaving Ian behind. I was chewing on some more dried fruit. I had to eat. Even though I didn't want to, I knew that I was hungry.
We were pretty far into the woods when we found him. The boy from 10, huddled against a tree, trying to stop the blood flow from a gash on his side. From the blood streaks coming down the drunk of the tree an his torn jacket, I would say that he'd fallen out of the tree. Poor sap.
His terrified Eyes had just caught mine, when Marvel's spear went through his chest. The boy slumped down against the rough bark, and his cannon fired. I sighed, forcing myself to watch as Marvel pulled the spear head out of the carcass.
"Come on, let's head back." I said, pulling my pack higher onto my shoulders. "Let her come to us. Searching's so tedious." I explained and turned to leave. The others followed, and I tried to ignore the whirring of the hovercraft behind me as it scooped up the body of the boy from 10.
