Glimmer stood there with her arms crossed and her lips pursed, rocking back and forth on her heels.

"Ehem." She coughed, causing Cato and I to break our eye contact.

I looked up at her. "Yes?" I asked, giving her a hate-filled stare. I really hope that it wasn't too subtle. I hoped that she noticed.

"You've been sitting there for five minutes, we should get moving." she said flatly, turning on her heel and beginning to walk towards the tree line.

Marvel went after her. "Glimmer, wait! We should grab supplies first!" He called to her, grabbing a spear and running after her quickly.

Cato and I stood together, holding each others hand, as we each grabbed a bag of supplies, and followed Glimmer and Marvel into the woods. The District 4 tribute and Peeta followed behind us silently. I will have to learn her name. It’ll feel weird just calling her ‘The tribute from District 4’.

We walked past the tree line, Cato with his sword and me with my knives.

“Time to go hunting.” I murmur, and Cato chuckles darkly.

“I’d rather be back in District 2 with you right now.” He says, squeezing my hand gently.

“Me too.” I sighed quietly, as we continued to walk through the woods.

We weren’t far into the tree line, when we spot a boy huddled under a rock ledge, I think that it’s the boy from three. I pointed him out to Cato.

He raised his sword, but I shook my head. “I don’t want to see anymore death right now.” I whispered, “Maybe he could become part of the alliance.” I say.

Cato hesitated, and then nodded. “Sure, but the next person we run into, we can’t spare them okay? The faster the other tributes are killed, the sooner one of us can go home. Okay?” He says, and I nodded my head sadly. I hated this.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I came into this. I never thought that killing someone would be so hard. I had thought of it as target practice, but now……

I moved over to the boy, my knife out in case he decided to attack.

He woke up, and started as soon as he saw me and my knife.

“Hey, it’s okay; I won’t hurt you if you give me no reason to.” I whisper, he relaxes slightly, but I can tell that every muscle he has is tensed in readiness to try and flee.

“Do you want to join us? If you don’t you know that we can’t just leave you here alive.” I say, and after a moment, the boy nods.

I pull myself out from under the face of the rock, and the boy follows. When he stands and begins to follow behind me, I notice his limp.

Oh right. He’s from District 3, the cripple. I felt a wave of sympathy wash over me. If I hadn’t wanted to spare him, he wouldn’t have made it past the first day.

“Come on then.” I tell him, as I walk back towards Cato and the other careers.

“Are you sure we can’t just kill him now?” Glimmer whined, a bit loudly a while later.

“Yes, I’m sure! He could be valuable!” I hissed back, baring my teeth like Enobaria does. My mentor really was rubbing off on me.

Glimmer grunted, and the boy from District 3 tried limping a bit faster to keep up with the front of the pack, and away from Glimmer.

“What’s your name?” I asked him.

I know, you didn’t know that I cared about other people’s feelings, that I was nice. Did you? You all thought that I was a cold-hearted killer? Well, no. You have got to stop thinking that.

“Ian.” He said, I could tell that he was struggling to keep up, but we didn’t have time to stop. Once we make a camp we should probably leave him behind to guard. It’ll be easier for all of us.

“I’m Clove.” I say, and then turn my head back to the foliage in front of me.
