Chapter 15

A knock came from the door and Violet goes to answer it while I help Gale set up for dinner with dad. I hear dad's deep voice and I smile as he walks into the kitchen. "I daddy," I said. He smiles and wraps his arms around me.

"My god you girls have grown up." He said.

"You saw us before we left New York," Violet said as she pours wine into 4 cups.

"I know but I still missed you both." He said. I giggle.

"I missed you too Mr. J," Gale said walking up to him. Dad smiles and gives him a handshake.

"Hi, Gale," Dad said. Gale looks at me.

"Steaks ready?" He asked. I nod.

"Medium rare for you and dad. And fully cooked for Violet and me." I said. He smiles.

"Hmm, steaks. Sounds delicious." Dad said.

"Sit and I'll bring you your plates," I said. I finished putting the steaks on the plates. And grabbed dads and Gales. I ran back and grabbed mine and Violet. I sit down at the table with them as Violet brings over the wine.

"For the record you two are underage," Dad said. Violet and I roll our eyes.

"It's just wine dad." We said at the same time. He chuckles.

"So how's school?" Dad asked.

"Um, Aria and I are in two of the same classes. Gale is in one of my classes." Violet said.

"Awesome. And Aria?" Dad asked.

"Well since Gale is taking culinary as well as me he's in 3 of my classes," I said. Dad nods.

"Violet, what are you in college for?" Dad asked. She smiles.

"I'm gonna be a lawyer." She said. Dad smiles.

"Tell me, Gale, how can you afford this place?" Dad asks.

"I work 3 jobs." He said.

"And what about the girls? How come they don't have jobs?" Dad asks as he looks at us both.

"I told them they didn't have too," Gale said. I looked at him.

"I have been looking for jobs. There's this clothing store in the mall hiring and I applied." I said. Dad smiles.

"And I applied to the nail salon down the street. If I get the job I get my nails done for free." Violet said. Gale looked at us both.

"Why did you guys apply?" He asked.

"Because you overwork yourself," I said.

"Yeah, we barely see you," Violet said.

"Besides you are barely able to pay the bills even with the three jobs," I said.

"I have it handled." He said.

"Well, I'm getting a job to pay for my portion of the rent," I said. Violet nods.

"I second that." She said.

"Violet you're my girlfriend you don't have too," Gale said.

"Wait you finally are dating?" Dad asked. Violet looks at him.

"What do you mean finally?" She asks.

"Oh come on you two had liked each other since second grade," Dad said.

"Whatever." She said. She looks at Gale. "I'm getting that job whether you like it or not." She said. He sighs.

"Fine." He said.
