I walk up the steps and walk in the house. The air was filled with the smell of steak. I shut the door and walked up to my room and stripped out of my clothes. I hopped into the shower and curled up under the water.

After what felt like forever I got up and washed off and slipped on my joggers and a t-shirt. I got into my bed and brought my knees to my chest. Tears filled my eyes.

"You stupid child." Mother said. A sting of pain crossed my cheek as her hand left it. "You are so lucky I don't kill you." She said. She shuts the closet and I hear the locks.

A knock came from my door and I quickly wiped my tears. Violet comes in with a smile. "So Miguel Garcia answered your phone. Wanna tell me why?" She asked.

"Violet, can we talk about this later?" I asked. Her smile dropped.

"Aria what's wrong?" She asked.

"I keep thinking about mom," I said. She looks scared.

"Aria, we promised to never talk about her." She said hugging herself. I swallowed the lump in my throat.

"Right sorry," I said. She turned around and walked out. I laid my head in my knees.

"Momma, why are you doing this?" I asked. She finished trying the ropes on my wrist. She grabbed a knife bringing it close to my face. The front door slammed open and Violet stomps into the kitchen.

"Mom what are you doing?" Violet asked untying me.

"Stay away from her. She's the devil." She said. Tears formed in my eyes. Violet looked at her.

"Why do you keep saying that? She's your daughter." Violet said. Mom's face changed and she quickly dropped the knife. Her hands were shakey. She brought her hand up to her mouth.

"Aria... I'm so sorry baby." She said. I backed up and ran upstairs and hid under my bed.

The next morning I got up for school and walked there. I went to class as though it were any other day. After class, I had an hour before my next class so I sat outside behind the school on a bench.

I was listening to music when I saw Miguel go behind the bushes. I looked away and closed my eyes. I opened them up and he was standing in front of the bushes staring at me. I looked at him for a second and got up. I turned and walked back into the building.

My last class went by in a blur and I headed to the cafe. I ordered coffee and just stared at it. I look to the left to see Rico and the gang huddled in the back corner table. He opened his mouth to say something but his eyes flickered to me. I quickly looked down.

I took a deep breath and got up. I walked out of school and headed down to the beach. I saw the rock I sat on two nights ago. I looked down to see my headphones lying on the ground. I picked them up and looked over at the huge builder I walked off that night.

My phone rang and I looked down. Violet. I let it ring as I sat down. I watched the waves crash into the beach 30 feet down. A hand on my shoulder made me jump. I looked up to see the cute bartender from 3 nights ago. I took out my headphone as he smiles.

"I knew that was you." He said. I smiled.

"How?" I asked.

"Your legs." He said. I rolled my eyes. "I never forget legs like that." He said with a chuckle. "I never got your name." He said.

"Aria," I said looking at him. "And yours?" I asked.

"Oscar." He said.

"Why are you on the beach alone, Oscar?" I asked.
