C H A P T E R 2
AROUND THE SAME time the next day, Draco had come. Camila couldn't help but be excited about it. He had come to the counter where she was working and ordered the same as the day before.
This time he didn't go to the corner seat. He sat at one of the stools placed near the counter. Camila didn't know why he sat there, but was grateful for it as she had a nice view of him from where she was working.
As soon as the morning rush was over, she went towards him. She'd been looking forward to speaking to him again. She noticed that he was drinking the coffee slower than yesterday.
Camila seated herself in the seat next to Draco's. He straightened up and asked, "which house were you in?"
"Hufflepuff!" she answered proudly. Draco has a shocked look on his face. Reacting to that, she asked, her annoyance at his expression seeping into her voice. "What, were you expecting a hufflepuff to have flowers in their hair and do hippie things?"
"But you had flowers in your hair yesterday," Draco mumbled, feeling confused. "And you always seem happy to."
"Sometimes Malfoy, looks can be deceiving," Camila said with a far off look. Draco wondered about what had happened to her that made her like this. He looked down at his empty cup and realised he had to get to work. He said goodbye and hurriedly left.
Camila stood up and noticed that all the other customers had left. She went to where Jake, one of the other baristas, was and started helping with the cleaning. She immersed herself with work, trying to forget the bittersweet memories which were rushing into her head.
The next few days seemed to be a blur for Camila. Draco came at the same time everyday but she couldn't push herself to talk to him. Her mind had been in the clouds, remembering memories from the war. Draco seemed like he wanted to talk to her but she avoided him.
A few days later, she was working at the cash register and couldn't escape then. He bought his coffee and waited till it was her break time.
As she tried to escape out of the cafe, Draco had cornered her against the wall outside. The close proximity made Camila squirm. "Why are you avoiding me?" Draco asked.
"It's nothing," she tried to brush it off and leave, "My break ends now."
I know your break is for 15 more minutes, Camila." Draco answered, feeling very annoyed. Camila tried to squirm away but failed. After standing awkwardly for a while, she answered his question.
"I feel like I have nobody, alright? No friends and I've lost touch with my parents. I feel so damn numb all the time. This loneliness isn't going away at all."
Draco seemed deep in thought. He finally replied "well if your lonely, we can be lonely together." Camila seemed shocked. Draco continued, "I want to be friends with you. I have to go now but I'll come tomorrow, okay?" He apparated away and left Camila with her feelings in a jumble.
