just hold me

"clem, help!"

clementine ran harder, but it didn't seem like she was moving any faster.

her breathing became rapid, sweat beading her forehead.

 "AJ?!"

 "help!"

her wooden foot stomped clumsily against the hard ground, the loud sound likely drawing walkers.

or whatever the hell was out here.

whispers and screams and monotone voices filled her head like a drum, getting louder and louder.

"why'd you leave that gun, kiddo?"

 omid.

"you didn't even try to save me!"

 sarah.

"you're turning my boy into a monster."

 rebecca.

"why did you let me drown, clem?"

 luke.

"you let that asshole stab me."

 jane.

"you let him bash in my skull, clem."

 brody.

 "you said you'd protect us!"

 mitch.

"you sat and watched me die, clementine."

 tenn.

more voiced joined, ones she couldn't remember and some she wished she could forget.

but each was the same.

cold and unforgiving.

hot tears poured down her face as she ran. her good leg buckled under her. she scraped her hands against the dirt.

another scream.

she forced herself up again, continuing her half-sprint half-stomp.

branches slapped her face.

twigs snapped under her.

the creek by the fishing shed murmured.

she finally reached the doorway.

the door to the barn.

the barn where AJ cut her leg five years ago.

she shoved the door open.

AJ sat, a walker grabbing at his clothes and hair and face. the eleven year-old struggled against the literal dead weight, thrashing and growling.

 "shoot her!"

 her?

clementine gave it no thought before pulling out her gun.

the gun felt heavier than usual.

why?

"hey!" she snarled, catching the creature's attention.

it slowly swiveled its head.

her heart stopped.

eyes vacant, mouth agape, skin pale and decayed.

violet.

 "no..." she whispered.

violet- no, the walker- was on her in less than a second, moving with incredible speed.

she barely had time to put her hands up protectively before she tumbled.

the barn and AJ disappeared.
