high school au (so original)

-----

violet scribbled on the small sticky note, hidden under the corner of her science notes.

what do i write to her?

'her' was referring to clementine marsh. co-captain of the baseball team. a sparkling 4.0 GPA. muscular (and somewhat intimidating) but one of the sweetest people you will ever meet.

cliche, yes, but violet thought it made her more charming.

they had met through louis a couple years back. they were friendly towards one another, during parties and sleepovers. not best friends, but comfortable around each other.

according to louis, clem thought that violet was, quote, "pretty cool."

violet caught feelings really fast after that.

she passed the note to louis under the table when the teacher turned his back.

louis smirked as he wrote.

just ask her on a date. the worst she can do is say no.

that's exactly what im worried about

cmon vi it can't be that hard

YOU TRY ASKING THE HIGH SCHOOL PRODIGY OUT ON A DATE

she glanced over at clementine, who was watching the teacher attentively and swiftly taking notes. she sighed quietly, leaning her head on her hand.

louis slapped another note on her desk.

you are so in loooooove ;)

she glared at him through the corner of her eye.

she scribbled hastily.

help me out here, dude

just ask her. the longer you wait the less chance you have with her

my chances are already pretty slim

exactly. any longer and they'll be closer to 0

thanks for the vote of confidence

just ASK HER, vi. she'll say yes, i promise

violet grunted, writing out a short but forward note on a different piece of paper.

you're pretty cool, clementine. go out with me on friday: yes or no

- violet carderreli

she passed it to louis for his approval. he shook his head, writing on the back of the note.

call her 'clemenfine' instead

what

ladies love when you're direct

like you would know

:(

violet rolled her eyes at his goofiness, reluctantly erasing and rewriting her note. she cringed when she read it back to herself.

i think you're pretty cool, clemenfine. go on a date with me friday night?

-violet carderreli

she shoved the note onto louis's desk. he smirked at her, then nodded, and handed the note to the kid sitting beside him and told him to pass it to clementine.

eventually, the note got to the girl. violet buried her head in her hoodie, not wanting to make eye contact with clementine.

as clem read the note, her face became more and more flushed. she glanced at violet's slouching figure, a hesitant smile on her lips.

"is there something you would like to share with the class, miss marsh?"

she snapped to attention, straightening her back. the teacher raised an eyebrow at her.

"would you like to read that note to the class?" he repeated, his gaze piercing.

the silence afterwards was deafening.

clementine looked at her feet, burning with embarrassment. she never got called out in class, and the number of eyes on her (including violet's) made her squirm in her seat.

thinking quick, she stuffed the note in her mouth. she shrugged, slowly chewing the paper. she swallowed, biting back a smile when she saw the teacher's confused face.

"what note?" she said innocently.

the judgemental whispers and curious glances turned into snickers and chuckles. soon, the room roared with laughter.

violet hid her smile behind her hand, still avoiding as much eye contact as possible.

the teacher cleared his throat, eyeing clementine suspiciously. he droned on with the lesson. "as i was saying, quantum physics....."

class went on as usual. when the final bell rang, clementine grabbed her backpack and darted out the door.

violet shoved her science textbook in her bag, exhaling angrily through her nose. she should have never written that note.

louis gave her a sympathetic expression. "vi, im-"

"save it." she mumbled, shoulder checking him on her way to the door.

she walked through the halls, shoulders hiked and head down, being shoved this way and that by kids running to the buses.

she got to her locker, surprised to see a small orange sticky-note plastered on the metal. she grabbed it, eyes scanning the words written in purple ink.

she sucked in a sharp breath, cheeks and ears turning pink, a grin on her face.

i think you're pretty cool too, vi. movies at 7 tomorrow? i heard the new Insidious movie was good. you know where to find me.

-clementine marsh, a.k.a. clemenfine ;)
