"ow! clem, don't bite!" violet scolded, pushing her girlfriend's head away from her neck. she was trying to focus on her homework, but, obviously, that wasn't going to happen with clementine in the room with her.
clementine giggled. "i thought you liked it?"
violet blushed, scowling. "not when your parents are downstairs. you're gonna leave marks."
clementine shrugged. "that's the point."
violet popped the collar of her leather jacket, trying to cover the hickey. it covered most of it, but the area around it was still bright red. it definitely didn't help that she was pale as a ghost. she flipped her collar back down, massaging the spot.
"what am i gonna tell my grandma if she sees this?"
"tell her that a mosquito bit you," clementine suggested.
"in the middle of winter? also, what kind of monster breed of mosquito has human teeth?"
"isn't your grandma, like, 76?" clementine said. "she won't even notice."
"she's old, not dumb. she doesn't know about us. if she notices, i'm fucked."
a knock on the door frame made them jump. lee stood there, leaning against it.
"hey, vi. your grandma's outside to pick you up," he said.
she nodded, grabbing her stuff and slinging her bookbag over her shoulder.
she kissed clementine on the cheek. "see you tomorrow. i love you."
"i love you, too. it'll be fine."
clementine watched as she left the room, then turned back to her work. then she noticed lee was still standing in the doorway with a smirk on his face.
"what?" she asked.
"was that...a hickey on violet's neck?"
"uHM-"

violet sat at the kitchen table, across from her grandma. it was silent, as usual, but she noticed her grandma kept glancing at her. especially at her neck.
she met her grandma's eyes nervously, swallowing hard. "what is it?"
"what is that on your neck, violet?"
violet choked on her water, not sure if her face was turning red from the pain or embarrassment. her grandma raised an eyebrow.
"uh, bug bit- mosquito bite," she sputtered, scratching at it for emphasis.
her grandma grinned slightly, looking over the rim of her glasses. "a mosquito bite? in the middle of winter?"
oh shit, i'm so fucked.
she opened her mouth, possibly for another lame excuse, but her grandma held up a hand.
"violet, i think you and clementine make an adorable couple."
now, violet's face feels like it's on fire. "b-but i thought- how-how did you find out-"
"i'm old, not dumb. also, your grandfather was the homophobic one. i don't give a shit."
violet felt herself relax, a small smile coming to her lips. "thank you, grans."
"mhhmm...anyway, is there marks anywhere else on your body that i should know about?"
"uHM-"
