♡As I walked into my apparently empty house, I noticed four missed calls and twelve text messages from Caspian. I sighed. Even though I didn't want to open them, my hand itched. Irritated, I walked up to my room to freshen up.
I figured that Blaze had left after freshening up. I threw my phone on my bed and started shrugging off my clothes as I walked into the bathroom. Mom and dad were not home yet. I decided to take a quick shower.
After taking a shower, I wrapped a towel around myself, tucked under my armpits as I cautiously walked towards my wardrobe. I remembered to close my window and draw the curtains. My room got washed in a shade of crimson from the curtains.
I picked out a simple, oversized black t-shirt and white leggings. I put on my (aka Caspian's) hoodie and closed the wardrobe. I looked at myself in the mirror on the wardrobe.
I hadn't gotten used to myself even after these days. I still couldn't recognize myself in the mirror. My hair didn't even appear to grow. It somehow remained straight. The contacts made my eyes look larger and greener, almost alien-like. My face looked tiny without my specs. I sighed moved away from the wardrobe.
I checked the time. It was around noon. My phone buzzed incessantly with texts from Caspian and his missed calls. I was too mad at him to even bother opening my phone.
At around two in the afternoon, I heard the front door click open. I was reading a book. I tossed it on my bed and ran downstairs. I saw mom standing in the doorway. She was in yesterday's dress. She was carrying some files in her hand. Dad followed her glumly.
They both walked inside. I acknowledged them with a small smile and nod.
"I assume you're hungry, now?",mom asked. I laughed softly and shook my head. I honestly didn't feel like eating anything. Mom stepped forward and hugged me slightly.
"Happy New Year, Amy.""Happy New Year, mom. Happy New Year dad.",I said turning towards dad. He smiled at me. His eyes had dimmed. His smile did not carry the same warmth anymore. He dragged himself into the house. I sighed and raced back to my room.
After a while of spinning my phone around in my hand, I decided to call Lexi. It had been a long time since I'd talked to her. And she deserved to know the shit going on in the Bethings household.
---
There was silence on the other end. I could almost hear Lexi chewing nervously on her lip, her eyes brimming with tears.
I heard her gulp.
"Is it for real this time?""I-I think so. They even went and met the lawyer yesterday.",I said, my voice cracking a little bit.
Again. The same deafening silence.
I could hear tiny sobs from the other side of the phone. Lexi never cried unless it was too serious.
"Lex, we can handle this.",I said.
"Amy, do you realize that if they get divorced, we'll have to live separately too? It will be joint custody but dad will get one kid and mom will get one. And believe me, I'm not ready to lose either of them. I want all of us. Together. As a family.",she said. I nodded thoughtfully into space and sighed, tears pricking the edges of my eyes.
My phone buzzed. I ignored it. It was probably a message from Caspian again. I was getting sick of the drama.
Finally, after speaking to Lexi for at least 45 minutes more, I hung up. However, I noticed a text message from Blaze. My heart raced. Did something happen between Caspian and Blaze? Did Caspian say something? I felt lightheaded. My breathing became heavier as I opened the chat.
