♡The worst day of loving someone is the day that you lose them♡

I slammed the car door shut behind me and rushed into the hospital, Veronica right on my heels.

It's ironic how it was Veronica out of all people who was accompanying me to the hospital.

My heart was thudding wildly and my stomach was all knotted up.

I marched up to the third floor, not even bothering to take the lift. I knew the room number: ICU-3.

Nurses filed in and out of rooms, doctors alternated between the rooms, hospital beds we're being wheeled in and out. The busy hum and the liveliness of the people who were not sick did not make any difference to the gloomy atmosphere of the hospital.

A clump was forming in my throat. I spotted ICU-3 and practically ran towards it. I stumbled in, making the nurses turn towards me.

Mrs.White turned towards me. Her eyes were rimmed red.

"Amy!",she said and thrust her hands out. I hugged her tightly.

I turned to look at Melody. A doctor was taking her blood pressure and the other one was gently stroking her head.

Melody looked pale, her eyes barely open. She looked at me smiled and then stopped, as if it hurt.

"A-Amy?",she called out.

I smiled at her, the lump in my throat growing bigger by the second.
"Yes. It's me.",I said as I kneeled down and held her hand.

"I-Is that Veronica?",she asked disbelievingly. I had to strain my ears to be able to listen to her.

I couldn't help laughing slowly.
"Yeah. It's her."

"I thought I asked you not to invite her to my funeral.",Melody croaked weakly and smiled.

I smiled back at her.

Veronica pursed her lips and silently stood in a corner of the room.

I turned back towards Mrs. White.
"What happened? Did the doctors say something?",I asked.

"I don't know. She suddenly had these violent fits and then she became u-unconscious. The doctors are awaiting results of her test.",Mrs White said as her lower lip trembled.

"What test?",I asked, cold fear wrapping itself around my heart.

"A body scan.",Mrs.White said and broke down. I rubbed her shoulder. Melody was just smiling weakly, not saying a thing.

I went and sat beside Melody and held her hand.
"Mel, you feeling okay?"

Melody laughed dryly.
"Better than ever."

"I'm serious."

"Look, if I have to die, I will die. It's at least better than being trapped in this body."

"Stop."

My eyes were watering now. I wasn't ready to lose her. I would never be.
She was my lifeline since third grade.

"The test results will be fine. Trust me.",I said and I squeezed her hand lightly. She winced and I let go.

The door to the ICU room creaked open. A serious looking doctor walked in with some reports in his hands. He motioned for Mrs.White to step out of the room.

I could feel that cold grip closing around my heart tightly. My throat felt clamped up. I was afraid.

I couldn't see Mrs.White after she stepped out of the room.
