Chapter 18

Amber P.O.V

"I never thought I would see you again, Natalie." she whispered.

"W-what? Who?" I asked uncertainly, turning to face her.

She stared into my eyes, and reached her hand up to take my blonde hair, now matted and ugly, in her hand.

"Don't tell me they didn't tell you." she said.

"Who?"

"Your parents."

"What about them?" I asked.

"Have a seat, it's kind of a long story." she said.

Great. I am so looking forwards to losing however many minutes of my life to listen to an old lady. I just want some sleep!

"I know you want some sleep, but please, it must be told now." she said urgently, sitting across from me in a leather chair.

Well maybe it can be very important.

"Your parents...aren't who you think they are." she said slowly.

I laughed nervously. "What, are they demons or something?"

I looked at the lady, she wasn't smiling.

She cleared her throat. "How much do you remember about your childhood?"

I thought about this for a while. I didn't really know that much.

"Not much, right?" she prompted.

I nodded. What could this mean?

"Well, I do remember seeing Jeff on he bus one day..." I said nervously.

"Who's Jeff?" she asked.

"I...don't remember him in my memory. But he looked like he was...running from someone."

"I see." she said.

"Who am I?" I asked.

"Why do you ask?" she countered.

"Well, I am just kind of inferring. Your saying weird stuff about my parents are weird and stuff and I can' even remember my childhood! What is wrong with me? What happened to me?" I said, my voice raising.

My eyes watered.

She took a deep breath.

"Eight years ago, you were involved in a car accident." she said, "I'm sorry." she said.

"I-I don't understand. Okay, I was in a car crash, so? Did...it kill someone or something? Did my dad die?" I said, even though I had a pretty good idea on what happened.

"Yeah, your parents died...and you had a twin sister that was older than you by a minute..." she said.

"Well, how the fuck would you know?" I asked, as a tear escaped my eye, I wiped it off quickly with the back of my sleeve.

"Because I was the one that rescued you." she replied.

"No. No. No. No. This is all wrong. You don't know me...I...have two parents....a mom and a dad. They love me. They would have survived it we did get into an accident." I said.

Tears streaked down her face. "It's true. Why would I make this up?"

"Well..because it just happens to be that I'm stranded in these random woods and a random house pops up and an old lady is telling me that my parents are dead! Highly unlikely." I argued.
