Chapter 6

// Next Friday around 4 PM //

'Okay, we're gonna record now. So can send this demo to Raymon if he likes Matt's performance.' she told us. We all got ready in our positions. I started off singing, Calum got to the keyboard, Michael did some chords and Ashton was just softly drummed in the background.

'You're pushing you're pushing away I'm pulling away....' I sang, the beat got heavier and before we actually noticed it, we were rocking out, playing our own song. We actually did a great job! I didn't quite catch the reaction of my stepmom since I was looking at my bandmates and concentrating on the lyrics and chords. After six other takes, my stepmom decided which one was the best and she said she's made sure it was gonna be the demo for Matt. We didn't really cared about the demo. But if we would've screwed this up I'd be shut out for sure. Maybe only for one night, but nothing was for certain.

We all got our equipment in our bags again (well, Mike, Calum and I. Ashton only had his drumsticks) and walked out of the school's record studio. 'Well, that did went great.' Michael commented happily. I nodded, smiling. 'Yeah. It was also quite cool to record in a recording studio for the first time.' I said. While all talking about the recording session, we saw Mae at his locker.

'Hey... Do you guys just come from the studio? Are ya guys competing in the upcoming contest?' Mae asked us, curious. We all looked at each other. 'No, we're not. We just had fun.' was all I said with a normal voice. Then we continued walking. Mae's always everywhere and always curious for news and gossip. He does write good articles in the school's newspaper though.

We said our goodbyes to each other as I stayed, waiting in my car for Matt and stepmom to come out of the school building.

When they got out, mom sat beside me and Matt sat in the backseat. 'Drive.' she said as I already started the engine of the car. I drove us home within 20 minutes. My stepmom immediately got out of the car, Matt was quick to follow her., I shut down the engine and locked the car as I made my way inside the house. I started preparing dinner and cleaned up the living room a bit.

// Later //

We just ate dinner together. 'Guys! I'm going now, I'll be home by 1 AM or so!' she said, before she slammed the front door shut. I cleaned up the table as I picked up the empty plates and cups. Matt walked into the living room.

I cleaned the kitchen after I put all the dirty plates and cups in the dishwasher. I heard low mumbles coming from the living room. I silently peeked around the corner. There sat he. My stepbrother. He was writing something down on a paper. It looked like a song. I know that 'cause I write songs myself. I heard Matt sing something. Lyrics I never heard before, but the way he sang it, it sounded original. His voice wasn't even that bad.

Suddenly, I got a text. It was in the groupchat.

Mikey: GUYS! Guess what?
Ash: What?
Cal-Pal: What's wrong?
Mikey: MY COUSIN IS GOING TO STAY WITH ME AGAIN!!
You: You serious?
Mikey: Yes, but he's so annoying!
Cal-Pal: Good luck
Mikey: Thanks, definitely gonna need that.
Mikey: bytheway, he kept switching radio stations on our way home! I can't handle this! S.O.S!!!
You: We'll think of you
Ash: Yeah, it's the least we can do. I'll pray for you :)
