"Have time for a hang out?" Jong-suk asked as I left my last class for today, "Perhaps dinner?"
I smiled and looked at him confused. "Why? Special occasion or something?"
He simply shook his head. "Nope, just a simple dinner, with a simple guy. Better than going home and eating by yourself, isn't it?"
I chuckled. "I guess. I get to choose though." He pouted.
"Alright, What do you have in mind?"
"Kimbap sound good to you?"
He smiled, "Yep. Shall we go?"
"Are you paying?" I asked teasingly. Walking next to him.
"What kind of gentleman would I be if I didn't?"
"A lousy one I guess." I laughed. The restaurant wasn't very far from where we were. It was an on-campus establishment, and had more than eighty things on the menu.
Jong-suk looked up at the sky and seemed in a daze.
"Is something bothering you?" I asked, confused about his silence. He looked back at me with a reassured smile and shook his head slightly, then glanced back up with his finger pointing towards the sky.
"Do you see that star?" He asked me, a dreamy-like smile on his face.
I looked up to the sky, the moon nearly full and the entire sky empty except for the fading look of the dark clouds that could be barely made out and one star in the middle of the cloaking night.
"What about it?" I asked quietly, glancing back at him. He was silent for a moment. Nothing made any noise except for the sound of our shoes against the pavement and a few other people walking around campus.
"I'm not sure," he said with a slight chuckle, "something about it seems different. It's so far from the moon and it shines so brightly, as if challenging it's radiance."
I raised my eyebrows as I realized his analogy. He was right, in a way. Although the star was very small, it's glow seemed brighter than the moon's.
"Wow." Was all I could say. I couldn't sense that he was so observant before, I wouldn't have ever noticed. When we arrive at the restaurant, it seemed as if we weren't the only ones who thought about coming here. Usually, on-campus establishments were pretty much empty. Tonight, it was full. The buzz of people talking filled our ears as we walked in and we noticed a major difference.
"There's definitely been some construction." I murmured.
Asian instrumental music played over the speakers as we walked over an indoor bridge. The two of us looked below the bridge to find a beautifully clear pond, with light colored coral, coins on the floor of it, and many koi fish swimming along inside of it.
For the most part, the restaurant had a dark theme, but had many lamps and evening-like lights. It was very romantic.
We walked up to the Hostess and Jong-suk pulled out his wallet.
"Table for two, please." He said. The hostess smiled flirtatiously, making me roll my eyes, and lead us to a table close to the koi fish pond.
The table was very beautiful, the dark shine of the wood chairs against the white table cloth and the sound of a small waterfall, filling the pond and even plants growing around it, made it all very romantic.
"Wow, this place changed a lot." Jong-suk said while sitting down. "Maybe we should have dressed better."
I observed his clothing and mine. Yeah, we looked like high schoolers.
"I don't understand it's sudden change, though," I told him, sitting down as well, "I mean, it was a fast food place last time I heard. Now it's a fancy restaurant?"
"Kimbap was sold to another man a few months ago," Said a waitress as she handed out the menus. "Reason why everyone is finding out now is because of the fact that hardly anybody came to eat here. A few people came in a few days ago, and since then, we've been booming business." She smiled. "For almost two months it was under inside-construction."
We both nodded. "Well in that case," chuckled Jong-suk, "Is the food any better?"
The waitress giggled and fluttered her eyes. "Infinitely better than the originals."
I felt a strange feeling ache in my chest as I watched the two smile at each other. I looked at the menu and said "I'll have the Daeji Bulgogi, no pork or beef please, only chicken."
The waitress looked in my direction with a small smile. "Yes, miss. And for you, sir?"
"Haejangguk, please," He said, glancing at the menu for what seemed like only a second, "Pork spine bones, rich and spicy."
The waitress nodded. "And what about drinks?"
"Tea." We both said casually. We looked at each other and laughed. The waitress only nodded, frowning slightly.
"Coming right up." She said, bowing slightly and leaving.
"I don't think she likes me." I said quietly, watching her leave.
"How come?" Jong-suk asked, folding his hands on the table.
I crossed my arms and looked at him exasperatingly, my mouth slightly open, surprised he didn't know the answer. I leaned in my chair with a "JinCha" and shook my head.
He chuckled and leaned forward, putting a finger below his chin.
