The wood is thick, but Beginning draws closer. I can feel his presence: strong, determined, worried. He's even sad. I still want to hold him.

I crouch in the brush, hoping against hope that he'll pass me by. I hear him singing, his voice is scratchy from overuse. He needs water.

I have water.

The singing stops and my heart beat picks up.

"End? I'm here! Answer me! Are you alright?" His sweet tenor voice is tight with concern.

I catch a glimpse of Beginning through the trees. He is beautiful. I want to be close to him.

"No!" I tell myself.

"End?"

Oh no. I clap a hand over my mouth. But it's too late. Beginning crashed through the undergrowth straight towards me. I can't move, I'm too afraid.

"Where are you hurt?" Beginning kneels in front of me, hands outstretched.

To touch me.

"No!" I shout again.

I flinch, scrambling back, away from Beginning.

"Don't touch me."

Beginning's face is creased with confusion. "But you said you weren't alright..."

"I'm okay."

"Why... Why can't I touch you?" He whispered.

"You know what I do." I tried to steady my voice, it came out as a low whisper. "Everything I touch..."

I tried to choke down a sob.

"Dies." Beginning whispered.

He had his hands in his lap and his head bowed. He looked angelic.

I could only nod. I didn't deserve to look at Beginning, but I couldn't look away. Beginning. My Beginning.

"End. I need you to kill something for me."

When I didn't answer, he kept going.

"Can you End the war for me? Please?"

"I can try."
