Lillian's P.O.V
"A party?" Alex almost yells as we sit in the school library.
"Lower your voice." I whisper.
"Lil, you hate parties."
"No I don't. I mean there's stuff I'd rather do, but I wasn't gonna say no to her." I try my best to explain.
"Lillian, you don't know these girls. They're druggies and gossips and-"
"How would you know?"
"My brother was a senior when Maryann was a freshman." Alex whispers.
"Well I won't do drugs. Besides it's just a slumber party. What could happen?" I regret saying that because I know that bad things could happen. I don't truly know these girls. But I'd rather spend my friday night at Maryann's house than just sitting in my room moping about Matt.
"Please Alex?" I beg.
"Why are you asking my permission? I'm not your dad you can go if you want."
"I know but I don't want you to be mad at me for going." I explain.
"I won't be mad just call me if you need anything." He tells me.
"I will." the bell rings announcing that the school day is over. Alex and I walk out to the buses.
Once we're sitting on the bus I check my phone. Shoot. Two missed calls from my dad. One missed call is a bad thing but two...
I turn to Alex. "Is it okay if we study tomorrow instead of today?"
He looks at me confused. "Why? I mean that's fine but is everything okay?"
"Yeah I just have to talk to my dad." I grow nervous thinking about it.
"Do you want me to go with you?" he offers.
"No! No don't come with me. Please my dad's gonna be really angry."
"Fine but don't let things get out of hand." The bus stops at our corner and we exit the bus. I walk up my driveway without saying goodbye to Alex.
I go inside and don't see my dad. I hang up my backpack and hope my dad is still at work. My hopes are crushed when I hear heavy footsteps coming down the stairs.
"Lillian!" he shouts. He's angry, and when I see him stumble into the living room I can tell he's drunk too. "I called you. Why didn't you answer?"
"I was at school." I say quietly.
He stares at me. "Don't let it happen again." he says strictly. "I need you to go to the store for me."
"What do you need me to get?"
"Liquor. Now. I'm out." He orders and I can smell the alcohol on his breath.
"I can't." I squeak.
"What did you say to me?" he takes a step closer to me.
"I can't." I say a little louder. "I'm underage they won't sell it to me."
He grabs my wrist and I wince because they're still sore from yesterday. "Dad, you're hurting me." I look up at him and his eyes soften. He lets me go and turns around.
"I'll fucking get it myself." He mumbles and walks towards the door.
I run and stand in front of him. "No."
"No?" He scoffs.
"You're drunk. I don't want you to get in an accident."
He rolls his eyes. "Get out of my way, kid."
"Dad please-"
"I said move!" he yells and punches me. Hard. I fall to the ground in a mess of tears and hold my cheek.
A look of guilt crosses over his face. "Lillian..." he reaches out for me but I flinch away. He stiffens and leaves the house.
