I pulled myself over the edge and collapsed on the ground. I turned my head to see them heading toward the base. I went to call to them but discovered that my radio had short circuited. Damn. I sighed and got up. I pulled my helmet off as I walked into the base. I followed the voices to find the guys.
"Is she really gone?" I heard Caboose ask.
"Can't be," Wash answered.
"How can you be so sure?" Tucker questioned.
"There's something she always says. She claims she's been doing it since birth so why stop now."
"What's that?"
"Veni, vidi, vici."
"What's it mean?"
"I came, I saw, I conquered," I said walking into the room. I smirked at them, "Did ye really think ye could get rid of me that easily?"
"Told ya," Wash stated.
I tsked at him, "Don't get cheeky, Wash. It's unbecoming. Now, this place is what I think it is, yeah?"
"Yeah, still a shithole."
"Aye, but the shower works so I'm not complaining."
"True, so we best get cleaned up and get going. We can't stay here."
"Right. We'll have to see what supplies when can get. It's a few days till we reach Valhalla."
"Business as usual?"
I nodded, "Business as usual."
"Hold up," Grif piped up, "why are you acting like you didn't just almost die?"
"I'm a soldier, Grif. Almost dying is in the job description."
"Sounds like you need a new job."
I laughed, "Aye, probably. We need to get moving. Like Wash said we can't stay here. We don't know who could show up. I don't know aboot ye, but I don't want to be in another fight today."
"She's right," Sarge agreed, "What's the plan Freelancers?"
"We get cleaned up, gather supplies, then head back to Valhalla. So, go see what ye can find. I'm going and grabbing a shower and getting the ocean smell out of my armor." I turned and walked out of the room. I walked the halls until I got to the room that had been mine. I stripped out of my armor and under suit. Digging through my trunk, I found some clean clothes. I moved to the bathroom for a quick shower. When I walked back out the bathroom, I found Simmons in my room.
"Hey, love, ye alright?" I questioned.
He shook his head, "You went over the cliff and there was nothing I could do."
"Hey now, that wasn't yer fault. Ye did what ye could. Shit happens."
"How are you so calm about this?"
"Honestly, it was one of the most terrifying things I have ever done. And I've been in some pretty bad situations." I stepped forward to hug him.
"I thought I lost you," he whispered.
"I'm here," I whispered back, "I'm not going anywhere."
He pulled away slightly, so he could kiss me. We kissed until neither of us could breathe.
"As much as I would like to continue this, we need to get going."
"Right."
"Grab some of that armor. I need to replace it." We both picked up pieces and walked out of the room. I lead the way down to the old locker room. As we walked in I ditch the ruined armor in the bin that we used to throw our broken pieces in.
