The next morning, I was standing in the hangar waiting for the rest of my team. Sarge walked in sipping on a coffee.
"Morning Sarge," I greeted.
He grumbled before getting on the ship. I chuckled and focused on where Simmons was equipping my soldiers.
"How we looking?" I asked.
"Sexy," he answered, "but it's not like we're trying hard. I mean we're trying but it's almost effort less."
"Hmm," I hummed, "Yeah, you are."
"Hey," Grif snapped, "None of that. Leave it in the bedroom."
I rolled my eyes and turned to the soldiers, "Load it up, soldiers. We're heading out. And where the hell is Captain Tucker?"
"I'm here," Tucker called running in. I looked behind him to see Wash and Ryan standing there watching him. Ryan seemed a bit more compliant this morning. I guess last night had worked. I smirked at Wash, who grinned back.
"Now we're waiting on you!" Tucker yelled from the ship.
I sighed.
"Remember," Simmons said, "Wash would miss him if he died."
"I know. I know."
He kissed my cheek, "Be careful."
"Always am."
I ran to get on the ship, and we headed for the base. Once there we were able to quickly take out the pirates and capture their base. Tucker was doing a victory dance.
"Another one bites the dust!" he sang, "Oh yeah! Another one gone, another one gone, another one bites the dust! Ugh! Yeah! We. Kicked. Your. Ass. Bitch!"
"Get down with your bad self!" Sarge said.
I chuckled, "Alright, that's enough. We just took their base. No need fer cruel and unusual punishments."
"Are you sure?" Sarge asked, "I could drop some sick beats on them. Y'know, bust some rhymes, make it old-school."
Epsilon popped up, "Oh for god's sakes. Please don't."
"Square."
"Come on," I said, "Let's get this place sorted out. We already know they have Freelancer equipment here."
"Right," Epsilon agreed, "Sarge, why don't you go check on the Feds. Tucker, are you down to handle the Rebels?"
"Yeah, yeah," Tucker said before they walked off.
"In all the years we spent in the canyon, when the hell did he learn to dance?" Epsilon asked.
"Probably that three months of darkness," I said, "I've got bigger questions on my mind right now."
"Yeah? Like what?"
I looked over to the giant tower thing, "Like what else was Charon studying out here?"
"Agent Rhode Island," a Fed soldier called, "we've retrieved what appears to be domed energy shield from within the complex."
"The bubble shield?" I questioned, "Are ye sure?"
"Uh...yeah, we're pretty sure."
"That's great. We can hook it up and start running some tests in a few hours."
"Hey, whoawhoawhoa," Epsilon said, "slow down. What about the giant floating tower in the sky? Did you forget about that crazy bullshit?"
"What, the temple?" the soldier asked.
