"I told you, you could always count on me, darling."

A COUPLE OF WEEKS PASSED, and so had a couple of missions. There had been some weird stuff going down. Grown ups disappeared, Zatara ended up becoming Doctor Fate, which was very upsetting for Zatanna, as she'd lost her father.

Then Wally went on a solo mission, and on November the twenty second, things got... Interesting. I was simply minding my own business, in the kitchen, reading Hamlet. Suddenly, there was an announcement from Batman, telling us all to come.

Our mission assignment was to go find out about something that was happening in Quarac. I'd always been interested in the state, as it spoke Arabic, a language I was fluent in.

Apparently, Queen Bee was reuniting Biyalia, her state, with Quarac, which was strange since the last war between them had left both sides worse for wear. "Robin. You're leading," Batman stated, ending the briefing.

"What? What about Aqualad?" He protested.

"Helping Aquaman. You're the next logical choice. Unless you want to step down."

"I can't..." I could tell he didn't want to be leader, so with I sigh I made a stupid decision.

The crap I do for my friends.

"I volunteer," I mumbled, putting my hand up.

"What?" Wally asked, in disbelief. "But you hate leading."

"Umm... New experience! Am I right?" I laughed shakily. As we left for the Bioship, Robin squeezed my hand quickly, as a way of saying thanks.

On board, I was about to wet myself. I could follow orders with no problem (unless the orders were dang stupid), and I could lead myself. But leading a team of four people? Why wasn't Arty here?! Why?!

"Shady?" M'gann asked. "You look really worried,"

"I'm fine!" I squeaked, rocking myself. "Totally fine!"

"You're stressing about leading everyone." Wally stated. "Why did you even do that, if you don't want to?"

I mumbled something, and then scuffed my feet on the floor.

"I can't hear you!" Wally exclaimed, half laughing, half annoyed.

"We're right above the Biyalian Quaraci border," Robin informed us.

"The Biyalians seem to be ignoring that," Wally commented, as several tanks crossed the line.

"There's a woman and a child ahead, right in the line of fire, we have to help them!" M'gann spoke. Everyone looked at me expectantly.

"Duh, um," I stuttered, rubbing my head. "This is way off mission... I knew this was a bad idea... Umm..."

Brainwave.

"Uh, go rescue them on stealth mode. If those guys know we attack them, it could be an international incident."

The others nodded, a little surprised that my idea was rational. We rescued them fine, and it seemed ok, for a bit. I was still panicking slightly. I was listing stuff that could have gone wrong.

"They could have hit us and seen us, and maybe they'd see our uniform, and make the whole thing into a massive thing, and-"

"Shades, cool it! It's ok!" Wally sang cheerily, as we stood in front of the bewildered mother and son. "The plan was great."
