"I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams."
Taylor Swift, Look What You Made Me Do

FAILSAFE IS WHAT LED TO MY DOWNFALL. It was one of the most traumatizing events of my life, and just thinking about it made me shiver whenever after.

It all started out as a simple training exercise, when it all went terribly wrong. It made me realize how much I cared for my friends, and how much I'd actually let them in. The realization wasn't the worst part though...

The team and I watched from the cave, on a live broadcast, as an alien ship entered the atmosphere. We watched as most of the ships were shot down, and the heroes of Earth slowly fell, one by one.
Natasha was one of them, on a ship with Batman. I barely flinched, same with Robin.
Tornado told us that the League would protect the planet at all costs, however if they failed, the responsibility would fall to us.

"We stand ready," Aqualad stated.

I don't.

The Justice League didn't manage to keep the aliens at bay, and they all were killed one way or another. Red Tornado sent us one last transmission before he also was knocked out.
"We are Earth's heroes now," Kaldur spoke, as we stared at the static on the screen.

"So what are we waiting for, a theme song?" Superboy asked angrily.

I could have that covered actually. Cue the Star Wars music.

"A strategy," Kaldur answered. "Earth's weapons are ineffective, and it has been made tragically clear that a direct attack will not succeed."

"Checking satellite imagery," Robin muttered, typing on that weird computer thing of his. After all this time, I still hadn't found out what it's name was.

We found that one of the main ships were in Superman's fortress of solitude. Of course, Superboy got triggered about not knowing about it, M'gann tried to calm him down.
Artemis and I had been the only ones silent during the course of these events. We felt there was nothing to say; all of us were strangely emotionless and unaffected by our mentors' deaths.

"We'll strike there first," Kaldur instructed him.

"Yeah! Break it down! Hit those ugly aliens with their own mojo!" Wally exclaimed, punching his fist into his hand, when Artemis elbowed him.

"Martian and Kryptonian in the house," she hissed at him. It was no wonder that Connor was giving Wally a look of annoyance, and M'gann of disappointment.

"Uh, not that all aliens are automatically ugly," Wally laughed shakily.

I guess some humans are. Damn it, why did I have to turn out with this hair? I blame Dad.

At the fortress, we took out the ships, and took some data from them. It didn't take long for the aliens to catch up with us though, as we ran back to the Bioship for safety. Wolf, had tragically already died, protecting Superboy. It was unsurprising that he barely shrugged.

While M'gann was downloading a weapon into the Bioship, we had to cover for her frantically. It was a real rush, I'd used up half up my bullets by the end.

"Done!" M'gann said through our mind link.

"Everyone, back to the ship!" Kaldur ordered, we started to drop in, however, Artemis stayed back.

"Go, I've got you covered!"She told us.

"Artemis, don't be stupid! There are to many of them! Get inside!" I yelled desperately. Then my eyes widened, as I saw behind her as she ran, an alien ship, ready to fire. "Artemis, behind you!" I yelped, rushing forward.
She turned too late, bow in hand, and was struck by the weapon on the ship, instantly disappearing in a beam of light.
