Chapter 28 The call

"Yes would love to!"

This is the umpteenth time I have said this in front of the mirror in the dingy woman's loo in this diner.

Yup we are still there, when Ethan asked me I was very confused and shocked, so being the bae he is, he told me to take  some time off and so here I am here practising like a mad girl in front of this smoked and cracked mirror, so checking my outfit one last time I go out of the loo.

When I reach the booth there was a surprise for me and it was none other than Jacob, seeing my questioning look, he shrugs and says "I can with you guys remember, I don't have transport!"

I nod my head and sit next to Ethan, he instantly puts his arm around my shoulders, I get a little embarrassed as first my shoulders are broad,I hate em, and second I could feel Jacob staring at us intensely.

Ethan notices my tense shoulders and comes closer to my ears and says "Hey, you want me to take it off, are you uncomfortable?"

I shake my head and scoot closer to him.

I hear Vanessa sigh and say "Ok I am allowed to say now that you are a cute couple?"

I feel Ethan go rigid against me and I know why cause I guess the time has come for me to say those words. So I open my mouth to say it I hear someone's phone ring. We all look at our phones when I see Jacob answering it and all the colour on his face drains, my hands itch to catch the trembling hands of his.

But I refrain from doing so, at that sometime I see my phone vibrate, I look down to see and it's my mom. I pick up the phone and answer it and I hear a lot of commotion and rumbling noises and that's when the other line says "Hey are you Savannah, Mrs. Jones daughter?"

I say "Yes, I am who am I speaking to?"

"I am sorry to say but the school that your mom is working was on fire and........"

That's it I didn't hear anything as dramatic it sounds my phone tumbled down and I can hear the line says "Mam are you listening...Mam?"

I see Vanessa take the phone and ask at me what happened, that was the cue I start bawling out, Ethan tenses again and asks me what happened?

I couldn't form coherent words, that's when Jacob says "The school where my bro is studying and her mom is teaching got on fire."

Jacob being the sensible one asked the hospital name and now we are going there. I am sitting in the backseat along with Jacob and Ethan is speeding his way through the traffic.

I can see Jacob's hands still trembling needless to say mine are to and my face is a mess, there are tear stains all over it. We look like a mess.

I start thinking about my mom, how strict she was but at the same time the sweetest. She listened to my non stop rambling and always my guardian angel. I feel a pressure on my thighs I look up to see Jacob and he mouths "Are you alright?"

I shake my head and he scoots closer and I place my head on his shoulder, I can see through the rear view mirror Ethan looking at us but instantly we have an eye contact he looks at the road.
Blocking all this boy drama and all the thoughts I drift off to the sleep.

I can hear some sounds near my nose, it's almost like someone is tickling it with their breath, they start rubbing my hands and it feels so warm, I moan out a little.

And I hear a chuckle and I open eyes to see it's Ethan, I don't know why I wasn't so happy to see him, my mind says "I guess you wanted it to be someone else."

I put off the thoughts and look at the chuckling Ethan and he says "Damn I guess I made you moan right the progress!" I shake my head at his attempt to humour.

His face changes to serious and he tells "Sav wanna go in?"

I look up to see we are in front of the hospital there are a lot of people I can hear cries and pleas from people all around. It looks so sickening.
I stand up and I can feel Ethan circles his hand around my waist, though he doesn't completely gets around them, he is surely strong enough to support me.

We start walking towards the hospital when I ask "Hey where is Jacob and Vanessa?"

He says "Jacob ran in the moment we stopped and Vanessa ran back of him and to be a support."

I shake my head and go towards the receptionist who is bombarded by people all around. It strikes me I didn't even call my dad thank god he came from NY yesterday.

I call him and it goes straight to voice mail so I look at Ethan and ask "Hey if you don't mind can you do me a favour?"

He nods his head. I say "Can you go to my house and check if my dad is still at home, I guess he is jet lagged and is still sleeping."
Ethan says "But Sav what about you?"

I shake my head and say "Ethan I need my dad, my dad has to know. He would be broken if he comes to know he wasn't here, so please."

"But Sav..."

He looks at my face and nods his head and start walking towards the door.

I turn to the receptionist and ask "Oakland Primary School fire patients are where?"

She says "Name of the patient Mam?"

I say "Mrs. Sophia Jones" She types something in the computer and says "Sorry mam she is still in the operation theatre, there is waiting room in the 2nd floor, you can take the steps if you turn right from here."

I nod my head and start walking towards the direction she said when I reached there, only little people were there. Most were in the ER. There were few parents sitting in the waiting area.

There was pain written all over their faces. I can see my phone go off and it's Vanessa.

I pick up the call and she says "Hey Sav where are you?"

I start sobbing onto the phone and say her I am in 2nd floor and that my mom is in OT. She cuts the call and before that she says I am coming right now.

I sit on the nearby chair and cry all the time until I see two figures coming towards me. I feel someone hug me and someone sit beside me. I couldn't open my eyes as they were heavy with tears I feel a soothing rub on my back and I continue to cry on the shoulder where my head rests on.

Waiting for the result and praying all gods around me for saving my mom.
