I Never Meant To Cause You Pain

Chapter 13

Today marks the fifteenth month since the accident. By the grace of God and many tests of time for Kate and Jonah it took him a few days away from one year to wake up from his coma. Jonah had heard everything Kate had to say from the first day but it took his brain a really long time sometimes weeks for it to process into language he could understand. Through the struggle Kate had on the outside, Jonah had an even worse struggle on the inside trying to get out of the coma. He wished so bad that he could hold his girlfriend and tell her that he was ok and to dry her eyes while he was at it but his lack of consciousness and ability to interact hurt the most.

He really went through an emotional rollercoaster before the accident and seeing Kate that day just snapped him to the point that he just wanted to get away. Then after the accident hearing Kate's determination was enough to show him that she had changed drastically. He wasn't happy about the coma or the situation but he was greatful for the opportunity for his girlfriend and ex to understand each other and to draw Michelle in the mix with them was just perfect since he knew Michelle and Latifah were enemies through Kate being his new girlfriend.

The four of them were now close friends, closer than they have ever been or even expected to be. Kate had been faithful to Jonah from the time of the accident and she really changed her life around since then. Jonah finally fulfilled his promise to Kate by engaging her outside of the church she discovered during his absence. It was beautiful, after service Jonah and Kate were leaving, but as soon as she exited the door to proceed down the stairs Kate heard someone scream duck. Everyone ducked and after a few seconds Kate open her eyes looking for Jonah. There he was, infront of her kneeled, ring in hand,

"Kate my love, you have been there though things seemed bleak and you were helpless to do anything to help me. You stood by my side every day as the doctors said and you always came back to talk to me even though I couldn't respond. If that isn't a wife then I don't know what one is. Would you marry me? " Jonah proposed.

" Yes Yes Yes Jonah, Yes I will" Kate excitedly replied.

So it was set in stone, Kate and Jonah would be married on the Anniversary of their graduation day, which was also the day Jonah promised Kate to marry her all those years ago. Kate had to call Latifah and Michelle at once to break the good news to them. Jonah could of easily mentioned it to Latifah since she worked for him but he let his fiance do the formalities as she seemed super excited about everything.

Jonah and Kate resumed work as normal the next day and everyone was happy to see them both. Kate continued her modeling but she never did anything extra provocative since she changed her life. Jonah's employees supprised him with a red velvet cake and vanilla ice cream. The cake read 'Welcome Back Boss'. Jonah's employees were really happy to have their boss back. He promoted Latifah to a team leader alongside his most trusted employee since she knew exactly how to take charge in a situation.

Jonah although able to walk talk and write, still had to visit the doctor's office regularly to run tests on his brain and bodily functions. Just a formality to make sure everything was alright with him physically and mentally. Kate as being Jonah's fiance, wanted to be with him every time he attended, just as she had been there
during his delema.

After the visit, Kate would take Jonah to the bench at the top of the hill just to talk and look at the chaotic city below. This was the place she went to free her mind when life gets a little bit more than she can handle. She wanted to share this with Jonah since they were engaged and she wanted no more secrets between them. Jonah understood and was thankful for the honesty of Kate.

Kate had to tell Jonah just how sorry she was but wasn't too good with words as he was so she just had to get everything off her chest. From the moment she stopped going to church a while after she met him, the neglect and the way she took him for granted as if he would have always been there. Her parents disliking Jonah but settled on giving him a chance since the coma and seeing their daughter broken like that, then upon awakening to see her so happy was an emotional Rollercoaster experience for not only Kate but for her parents also.

She talked and talked trying to explain her feelings and what she went through since the accident. She also had to appologise every moment she got. Thinking about everything they both had been through and everything she had put him through, tears came trickling down Kate's powdered face running off her fancy red matte lipstick to her lap. Even though she appologised everyday since Jonah had gotten up and he insisted that he understood and forgave her, Kate in her mind thought that it  wasn't enough for everything she did wrong in her life and to Jonah.

Even though she did wrong by him, he still honored his promise and the ring he gave to her at their graduation day. He could have just gone with Latifah and make her forget about Julien, or go with Michelle or some random girl he wud have came accross eventually. He could have even stayed single for a while after being so hurt but he honored Kate even though he had no reason to. Jonah couldn't bare to see Kate like this so he kissed her deeply and embraced her as he dried her eyes. Kate just had one more thing to say before she could stop talking, apparantly she had found the words she was looking for to recite to Jonah so long ago,

"I never meant to cause you pain"
