I'm skipping Leaikra and the crossover prompts, sorry.

Background: Keith and Lance are both in Advanced Placement classes for writing. They get a prompt that asks them to describe love to them. Keith writes about unrequited love and rejection. The essay is amazing and the school gets permission to share it. That's when Lance, who had rejected him, reads it.

What is love? According to Merriam Webster Love is a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties maternal love for a child; attraction based on sexual desire; affection and tenderness felt by lovers; affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests; unselfish loyal and benevolent; concern for the good of another.

Love is different for everyone though.

This may seem like a lot, but there is such a different meaning really. Love is everything and nothing at the same time. It can give you life, or make you feel like death. It's bittersweet. It can make you feel amazing or it can hurt you in a horrible way.  Many people wish to find love in their lives. They want to feel nervous butterflies in their stomach when they talk to someone. They want their arms to wrap around them, to hold them and be there for them. But many people regret love. It can do many terrible things to a person. If not reapproached, it can kill. It can make a person do stupid things, harmful things even. People have been killed over love.

But the agony of being rejected from someone you love is torture. Its followed by unrequited feelings. You could be, emotionally, the strongest person in the world, but love will find a way to bring you to your knees and tears to your eyes. It hurts you in the worst way possible. Its the feeling of being completely, hopelessly, desperately in love with someone, all the while knowing that your feelings will never reach them.  You spend your waking hours or even your sleeping hours thinking about this person. And you know deep down that they'll never love you back. You know that you would do anything for them, but they won't return the favor. And you don't want them to, you only want to be near them. The feeling is incredible in the sense that you love someone so damn much but horrible because you know you'll never get to wake up next to them or kiss them or do anything like that with them.

'A love that is one-sided, malnourished, and weak.
It is felt only by one person for another that does not return the same feeling. '

It is desperate, frustrating, and out-of-control. I have experienced it with a boy I am deeply in love with. We are together, and his love for me was warm and all-encompassing a couple of months ago. But it's not the same love. Its a friendly, platonic love, and I want to keep this boy around. So I can never tell him how I really feel. Sometimes, it feels as though I am suffering as much as if he passed. The grief is immense. I feel absolutely lonely. Yet I still have him in my life, so at least I have that.

"should I be happy that I'm your friend or sad because that's all I'll ever be." This is something that I think about daily. People say that you should cut them off so you don't get yourself hurt, but all the pain is worth it for them.

Love is different for everyone but for me, it's hell.

...

Lance read the anonymous essay to himself, wondering who could have written it. He knew it was someone in his class as this was the prompt they had recently received. Lance looked around for his friend who had walked away while he was reading. He spotted the back of his mullet and called out to him. "Keith!"

Keith turned around and walked to Lance. He flinched a little when he saw what Lance was looking at. Does he know? "Hey, what's up?"

   "Why'd you leave?"

"Oh, um I went to get a drink." Keith rubbed the back of his neck and let out a nervous laugh.

"Then where is it?" Lance pointed to Keith's empty hands.

"I drank it?" Keith said, but it came out as more of a question.

"Stop lying. If you don't want to hang out with me just say so." Lance started walking away.

"Wait! No! That's not it!" Lance turned back around and paused, giving Keith the chance to explain.  "I just," Keith sighed and continued, "I just didn't want to see your reaction after you finished reading.  Or you to see mine when I saw yours." Keiths eyes blurred and he realized that he had tears streaming down his face.

"Hey Keith, its okay buddy. C'mon, let's go to my house and you can tell me more there." Lance walked next to Keith and wrapped an arm around his shoulder. Lance directed him to his car and drove to his house. The house is surprisingly empty as Lance and Keith walked into the house. Lance and Keith walked up the stairs and sat down on Lance's bed. Keith couldn't even look at Lance, he was honestly terrified of what Lances reaction would be. Will he be mad at me? Is he going to throw me out? Tears appeared to Keiths eyes. Will he leave me forever?

"Keith, hey. Please don't cry. You can talk to me."

"You'll hate me. You will be disgusted and never talk to me again. I don't want to lose you!"

"Keith, I would never hate you! You mean a lot to me, I could never do that to you. You won't lose me! I promise Keith. Even if it's about me, I still won't hate you. It's alright to tell me."

"Well," Keith sniffled and wiped some tears away only to be replaced by new ones, "I... I wrote the essay. About you. Because... well, I'm in love with you." Keith continued to look down. He hugged himself and dug his nails into the arm on his skin.

"That's it? Keith, it's alright. Even if I didn't like you back, I wouldn't hate you."

Keith looked up at Lance and his grip on himself lessened. "Wait, you like me?"

"Yeah, I do." Keith stared at Lance before mumbling something. "Keith, you gotta speak up buddy."

"Can I have a hug?" Keith said a little louder.

"Of course buddy." Lance pulled Keith into a hug and rubbed his hands on his back "Hey Keith, will you go out with me."

"Yeah," Keith responded, letting out a content sigh. Lance pulled them backward on the bed so they were both lying down. Keith laughed and pulled his face out of Lance's chest. Lance placed his hand tenderly on Keith's cheek. He wiped away the excess tears still on his face and smiled down at him. He leaned forward and brought his lips to Keith's. They shared a sweet kiss before pulling away. Keith placed his chin on Lance's chest and stared up at him happily. Even if Lance didn't love him yet, he thinks that one day he could.
