It had been a year since Dean and Cas separated. Dean would be lying if he said he was over him because God knows he was just as in love with Cas as he was when they were married; hell, he was just as in love with Cas as he was when they were teenagers. He couldn't get enough of Cas. When Cas stopped by to drop off the kids, Dean talked to him any chance he got. They still had family dinners and Dean could never get his eyes off his ex-husband.

Everyone in his life urged him to get out on the dating world again, even Jack took an interest in his love life.

"There's a nice campus security guard at school, Dad." Jack had casually brought up one evening.

Dean raised his eyebrows at his son. "Oh yeah? How do you know he's gay?"

He watched his son guilty rub the back of his neck. "I sort of interrogated him because all the girls in school think he's cute so I thought you would too."

As concerned as he was with Jack's detective skills, Dean bent over laughing. That's how most of their conversations went nowadays. His kids were desperate for him to be happy again, just like Papa was.

"Papa goes on dates, Dad." Claire would bring up at dinner and Jack would send her a glare.

"That's good for your Papa." Dean would swallow and fake a smile for her.

"Why don't you go on dates?"

"Because I have dates with you all the time, Princess." That was enough to get her off the topic, but it never worked with his brother.

"Dean, I know it's hard, but you have to put yourself out there," he would always start off. "You don't have to have a serious relationship just yet, but at least an attempt would be nice."

Dean would huff and take a swig of his beer. "I haven't been on a first date in 15 years, Sam! It's not that simple."

Dean rather enjoyed his life at the moment, besides the gaping hole in his chest that Cas used to fill. He fishes on the weekends the kids are with Cas. He's more involved in the kids' school now, even though he always has to fend off the desperate PTA moms. He's also extremely busy with his job, especially now that Cas doesn't pay for half of everything. He was fine. Or at least he tried to convince himself he was.

It was Sunday night and the kids would be home any minute now, Dean was definitely not peeking out the curtains to catch a glimpse of Cas. Soon he saw his ex-husband's car pull up in his driveway and Dean was quick to look casual. He was watching TV when the kids ran into the house to affectionately greet him.

"Papa says he wants to talk to you," Jack stated, pointing towards the opened door.

Dean got up from the couch and took a deep breath before making his way over. He wasn't even aware that there was a trail of children behind him. It was only when Cas laughed did he turn around and see his kids peeking out from behind his legs.

"I want to talk to your dad alone," Cas said, raising his eyebrow at them. They huffed before trudging to their rooms.

"So," Dean rubbed the back of his neck. "What did you need?"

Cas never had a problem with looking Dean in the eyes, but Dean still found it to be a struggle. It was so hard to look into his safe, blue eyes and not confess his unwavering love. Cas was able to look at Dean like Dean's stare never did anything to Cas. As if Dean never drove Cas crazy with a simple look. "I can't take the kids next weekend, some work stuff came up."
