Is This Really What It's Come To?

It's only a few hours before the show and we still don't have much of a solid plan. Five is usually not the sort of go with the flow person so I expected there to be a plan and for me not to just be going into this blind, but whatever Five thinks is the right idea is usually the right idea. Which means I should probably trust him. We're back in his van again, this time, not only do we have to fit Allison, Luther, Diego and I in the back of the van, we also have to fit Diego's thirty pound bag of extremely dangerous and illegal weapons. I've already been poked by one of his throwing knives five times and the trips barely started. Five is intending on driving to the show early and then heading backstage to see if we can find Vanya. Or to locate her on the street if at a possible.

Unfortunately, we don't see her on the street and we're late for the show because of traffic.

I could really use a cigarette right now. If I can't see Dave all the time then what's the point of being sober? I suppose there is a point, it's what he would want me to do. He also wants me to get over him, but I don't think that will be happening anytime soon.

Five honks the horn loudly, but traffic isn't listening. We're still stuck behind about a mile of cars, someone must have had a accident ahead.

About ten minutes later the traffic finally starts to clear up and we're almost there. It took us long enough to get there from our mansion right outside the city.

Luther opens the door and jumps out, everyone sitting in the back follows, me going last and slamming the door behind me. From outside I can hear that the orchestra has already started. Diego is lugging around his bag out weapons, but it doesn't seem to slow him down in the slightest.

"Klaus, you be lookout." Diego instructs me as we get to the door. I stop running stand lookout.

"Why do I always get stuck with lookout?"

They ignore me and keep running. So much for feeling like an important member of the family. It's fine though, I know I'm not an important member of the family. I never was. If you could even call this a family. In a way I suppose we're more like an incredibly dysfunctional team of emotionally stunted adults consisting of a drug addict, a former police officer, a thirteen year old, a gorilla, and a movie star divorcée. What a great team we make! Basically failing every single mission and letting our little brother get killed. Technically that was more The Monocles fault than anything, but I still feel bad about it.

"Hey Ben?"

"Yeah?" He says turning to face me.

"Are you really okay after what happened?" I just wanted to make sure, he was my brother and I care about him, I just needed to be sure that he was okay after he basically just killed the most evil person in the world. Even though it was the most evil person in the world I know he still feels guilty about it.

"Don't worry about me, Klaus."

"You're my brother, of course I'm going to worry about you."

"I'm dead Klaus. There is nothing to worry about anymore. Nothing more than a ghost."

"Is being dead really that awful?"

"Yes. But there are times when I suppose it can be good for me."

"When is it good?"

"Well for starters I have a brother who can talk to the dead, so I'm less lonely than most ghosts."

"Can't you talk to other ghosts?"

"Other ghosts are too miserable to talk to."

"All of them?"

"No, but most."

"Dave wasn't like that."

"Dave is special."

"He still wants me to get over him."

"I've never been in love."

"Don't. It's incredibly painfully."

Ben laughs. "I'll take your word on that."

"I'll take your word on how awful death is. Unfortunately for me I'm going to have to die some day."

"I'll probably end up falling in love some day."

"It's such a shame I have to waste my life not taking your advice and you have to waste your after life not taking mine."

I hear a loud bang come from inside the building, followed by people screaming. People were pushing to get out of theatre before I could manage to push past them to get in. I held the door open and waited for everyone to get out of the theatre and into safety. Once everyone was out I dashed inside running as fast as I could to the place where Vanya was playing.

That's when I saw her. It absolutely horrified me. What sort of a monster had she become? What could have caused her to become like this? Her eyes were pure white, and so what the rest of her. She was playing an absolutely haunting piece, something that made me want to run away and cover my ears in pure fear, yet I couldn't stop listening to it, lingering on each note in anticipation for the next. She looked like a total monster. She also had the power of a monster.

Luther, Diego, Allison and Five were all huddled behind some theatre chairs talking about what they're plan of attack was. I approached them.

"What's the plan?" I shouted over the music. Vanya didn't seem to notice. She looked too angry and too distracted to care. She has her eyes closed, focusing on the music.

"The plan is you me and Allison distract her while Diego attacks from behind."

Sounds like a plan to me. Man, I just love rushing headfirst into certain danger. Allison gets up and tries to get Vanya's attention. Vanya opens her pale, white eyes and glares at Allison. Allison can't talk but she looks like she's trying to mouth something to Vanya. Something along the lines of 'I love you.' And 'it's my fault.'

I can already tell this is going to end tragically.
