Don't Worry About Me

"Klaus? Earth to Klaus?" Diego calls to me, then I realize that I'd zoned out, getting caught in my past.

"Yeah yeah, I just zoned out for a while there."

"Maybe we should start calling you Spaceboy." Allison teases, scribbling the phrase on her notepad instead of saying it out loud.

"Yeah! And then if you call me Space boy, you can call Luther Daddy." Five and Diego laugh. Luther blushes.

"That wasn't very nice Klaus." Luther scolds.

"Who cares?"

Suddenly, I see Vanya stirring in her sleep. We all turn to her.

"Vanya?" I call out. "Are you awake."

Vanya grunts in response. If she didn't have a pulse I'd have nearly thought she was dead.

She gets up groggily.

"What happened?" She seems different now. Like she's almost back to normal. Except for the fact that she's still pure white.

"Well, you basically made the whole world go ka boom with you powers." I say with fake happiness.

"What?"

We all gather around Vanya. This the second most awkward family reunion ever. The first was probably at Reginald's funeral. Wasn't that just the loveliest moment ever?

"We know you don't know how to control your powers, but we just want to help you try." Five offers. "Only if you want our help though."

"Yeah, we all know that Dad was the biggest dick who ever roamed the earth and we all had to go through just how awful he is, but I think we all agree that what he did to you was really just pushing it." I say, trying to get my sister to stay here and learn more about her powers.

Luther nods. "Until Dad, I didn't even know it was possible for dicks to be that big. He almost makes me look small in comparison." I laugh. Although I've never seen it, Allison's moans at night are enough to convince me that Luther's gotta have one giant fucking dick.

"It's really great to have someone who actually knows what they're doing help me out with this." Vanya says. I finally manage to calm down a little. At least now we have a bit of a chance of saving the world.

I jump up. "Hell yeah! The team is reunited!" I say sarcastically. "Now with our new teammate Vanya, alias : The White Violin." I deepen my voice when I say the White Violin part, trying to sound ominous.

Luther gets up too. "And our first mission is to save the world!" We high five. It feels good for all of us to be joking around like this.

Five still looks like he has a terrible headache. Mostly, he looks like I'm the one causing his terrible headache. I stop and sit down again. "So what did you figure out about your powers so far?" He asks Vanya.

"I think it has something to do with sound. Like I can focus in on it and it will make objects move of manipulate the vibration or something. I don't really know how it works. All I know is that Leonard Peabody found some of Dad's research and was trying to manipulate me with it." Vanya looks around us. Seeing the rubble and general destruction is not a very pretty sight, but at least the last of the human race isn't causing wars over the last of our resources and killing each other off. I could really think of a worse way for the world to go.

"Where are we?" Vanya asks, seeming incredibly confused still.

"Welcome to the apocalypse." Says Five, gesturing to the space around us with open arms.

"I'm still confused."

"Do you remember anything that happened before you passed out?" I ask her, trying to make some sense of it all.

"Not really." She replies simply.

"You remember me telling you about the apocalypse, though?" Five asks her. "Like how I told you I knew it was coming and when but I didn't know what causes it?"

She nods.

"You cause the apocalypse, Vanya."

Her eyes widen in horror. Fear of what she'd momentarily become and the fact that she never even realized the thing she became. She never realized she was a monster. But Dad did. Which is why he tried to postpone the apocalypse by trying to subdue her powers.

She looked at us all, her eyes gazing at each of us one by one.

"I'm sorry."

Allison went over to her and put her hand over Vanya's. She held out her notepad. I looked over to see it said 'we forgive you'. There wasn't a single one of us who didn't forgive her. It was impossible. She's our sister and we only want to help her with this.

After a brief moment of appropriate silence, Five spoke up.

"Do you think you can demonstrate this power of yours?"

"Is it safe?" Now that she knew she could destroy the world with her powers, I highly doubt she would want to use them again, but she would have to if she was ever going to learn to control them.

"We'll never know if we don't find out." I like Five's confidence, but I'm extremely afraid that things will go horribly wrong and we have no first aid supplies. I look down to notice that my hand is still bleeding slightly. I rip the edge of my shirt and tie it around my hand. At least I'm not bleeding everywhere now. Although it does probably look like I'm wearing a really tacky crop top.

Vanya gets up shakily and grabs her violin and bow. She gets ready to play.

"Is there anything in particular I should focus on?"

Five pointed to a piece of garbage lying among the rubble. "Try to lift that soda can."

"Are you sure? I've never tried to focus it on something so small...let alone try to lift something up."

"You'll never know whether you can or can't if you don't try-" I interrupt Five.

"Are you saying you can cause the destruction of the entire world, almost all the human race, and half the moon, but you can't lift that tiny can?"

"Yes." She answers shortly. Then she plays a single not on her violin. The can starts to lift  shakily off the ground, then it bursts up into a million pieces, almost as though it was ripped apart in a split second while suspended in mid air. Vanya drops her violin.

"I didn't know it would do that."

"Just try to use less power." Five encourages.

"What one of those pieces where to hit you guys?"

"We're a bunch of superheros," Diego says. "Do you really think some scrap metal could hurt us?"

She picks up her violin again, and plays the same, haunting note. This time she tries to pick up the lid of a trash can. It also gets ripped apart.

She tries a few more times with various other objects and fails. The rest of the Umbrella Academy watch and encourage her to keep trying.

"Are you guys sure I can do this?"

"You have to do this. All this is only because Dad never let you continue your training." Diego replies.

"With more practice you'll get it right eventually." Luther encourages.

I sit in the corner wishing I had drugs, wishing I had anything to take away the horrible memories that come to mind.
