Pearl- Age 16

"Mason... I need to get home" Pearl giggles as her secret boyfriend continues to kiss her neck. Pearl and Mason have recently started dating, but it's been in secret because Pearl knows how weird her dad gets with any boy who wants to be in her life other than him and Alder but the two teenagers couldn't hold back anymore. She's scared of telling her parents, especially with their past with Masons dad and how messy it was, Pearl is scared of the reaction that she'll get.

Pearl eventually convinces Mason that they'll continue another time. While walking back home they try not to be obvious that something is going on because the only person who knows is Nessa because Mason asked her permission to date Pearl so Nessa knew before Pearl did. They reach Pearls house and dips to the side of the house

"Open your hand" he says with a cheeky grin, Pearl opens her hand and gasps when he places a beautiful pearl in the palm of her hand

"When we went to Four last week, I cracked open a clam. I know it's not much but... it reminded me of you" he explains, Pearl closes her hand around the pearl and kisses her fist

"I love it. I love you" she replies, Mason smiles and they share a kiss before she turns away and goes to the front of her house and enters through it, she sees her mom sitting by a window, an open window... the window right where her and Mason just were, her lips are pursed and he plays with her braid

"Mom?" Maybe she didn't hear, is all Pearl tells herself

"Pearl... why didn't you tell me?" Is all she asks, Pearl knows there's no point lying to her mother

"I... I was scared. I don't want you to be angry that I chose him" Pearl frowns, Katniss walks over to her daughter

"Pearl. I'm happy for you. I know that you choose well and that you're a good daughter to us. I'm happy if you're happy. Don't ever doubt that" her mom replies, tucking a stray hair behind Pearls ear

"Please don't tell dad. I haven't figured out a way to tell him yet" Pearl begs her mother, her mother sighs

"Okay. But he needs to know, Pearl. Whether the reaction is good or bad, he is your father after all" Katniss says, she kisses her daughter's forehead, Alder comes barreling down the stairs and hugs his mother

"Mommy! Daddy is trying to get me in the bath!" He squeals, hiding behind her as a tired looking Peeta comes down with a towel sling over his shoulder

"He's as stubborn as you are" Peeta chuckles and then winks at his wife

"It's not that hard" Katniss replies rolling her eyes, she kisses her husband as she walks upstairs with their nine year old son, Peeta looks to his daughter and smiles brightly

"Your home, I missed you" he says, hugging his daughter

"I was only gone for an hour" she giggles amusingly, following her father into the kitchen so she can help with dinner

"Dad?" Pearls heart is beating at the fastest rate that she's ever felt

"What... uh... would you ever be okay... if I got a boyfriend?" She asks slowly, Peeta has a surprising reaction, it leaves Pearl in complete shock

"You and Mason? I'm fine with it" he chuckles, Pearl looks at her dad in complete surprise

"He came and told me yesterday. He told me not to say anything so he can tell you when you're less likely to fire up" Peeta grins

"You're not mad?" Pearl asks

"Why would I be? Masons a good kid, helps out when the bakery gets too busy, he's appropriate on the way he treats you, he's looked out for both you and Alder. You couldn't have chosen a better man to be with" he explains, Pearl smiles at him, disappointed in herself that she actually thought that her dad was the kind of person to go on a screaming binge

"Thank you, daddy. You don't know how much this means to me" Pearl says, cutting up the vegetables, Peeta kisses he side of her head

"You're my baby girl, I want nothing but for you to be happy. Now, does your mother know?" Peeta asks

"She didn't find out that long ago. About ten minutes ago" she replies and he chuckles

"I thought she looked a little on edge. She's never good at keeping secrets" he replies

"Choose your next words real careful, Mr" they turn to see Katniss standing in the doorway with a clean and dressed Alder, Katniss walks up to her husband and softly punches him, he brings her to his side

"Don't worry, my love. Your beauty makes up for it" he grins, Katniss rolls her eyes and they share a kiss, it makes Pearl smile because she's never seen two happier married couple than her parents, even after everything they've been through, she's glad that she has the name Pearl Primrose Mellark.
