Remembrance Day - Chapter 16

Many years ago, before Eren was born and when Levi was just a small boy, I was partners with an evil man. No, not partners like sexually or romantically, but criminally. We were pals, we were best friends, we were partners in crime. Though now, I did and still do hate him for things that happened, and things that he did, but we were friends once. He was the first person to accept me for who I was, he accepted the monster inside me, the one with such a hatred for humanity. 

Years later, as I would frequently visit Kenny in the Underground with his nephew, Levi. Which... I don't really understand why he never told the boy that they were related. Levi was so alone. And as more years went by, I came to the Underground one day, and Levi was sitting alone in his room, he looked at me as he held his dagger, "He's not here." 

"What do you mean 'he's not here' boy?"

"Kenny left, are you dumb or some fucktard, brat?!" Levi looked angry, yet his eyes showed sadness. Kenny had been a father to the boy, even if it was not what a father should be. 

I walked over to him and held him by his hair, smirking at the boy who was now frightened, "You don't know the half of it boy! I'd be happy if I were you. That man won't torture you any longer..." Levi looked shocked, "Yeah, you think I didn't know what he'd do to you. He'd always tell me, how you would starve for days. Just look at you. You're all bone!" I tossed him two loafs of bread. "Eat. You'll need it for the days to come."

And so for the next two years, I stayed with Levi, training him even harder to be the fighter he is today. His techniques are exactly like mine, that is why he can't defeat me. One day, Levi met a boy named Furlan who was the same age as him, both around 17 years old. And so as Levi grew more and more apart from me, I left him a note, telling him to never seek me out, and that one day he'll know the truth of it all. And so I left, leaving the walls, never to be seen again, or so I thought. 

Years passed since then and when I finally recognized Levi, he was a different person. His face, his body, his mind, his everything was different. I had fallen for someone though I knew it wouldn't end well because once he finds out who I am and my relation to Kenny... he will kill me. I am surprised that he doesn't know it's me, but I guess he never caught on to my never aging, so he must be looking for an older woman, or he thinks I am dead. 

Now, I lay in Kenny's hands. Though it hasn't been long since our last run in, we haven't worked together for over eight years. We always had this joke of dancing together, as we would say, "Our graceful way of fighting." I always had this smooth power of agility that looked always like dancing to Kenny, and so that is how it all started. 

We run towards the lake in the distance as we have now entered the rural region of Wall Rose. I laugh, "Oh Kenny, I miss the good ol' days!"

"Me too, Liz. I was meaning to tell you, sorry for leavin' back then. I don't really know what happened, it just happened and I am sorry for never contactin' you till' now." Kenny nervously laughed. 

"Am I hearing things correctly? Is the infamous Kenny the Ripper apologizing?!" I slightly grin. 

"Aw shut up Liz!"

"I accept."

His eyes widen a little, "You do?"

"Ya know, for the first person to ever accept a monster like me, you deserve acceptance." I hug him, "Now no more gooey nonsense. Let's get out of this situation because it looks like Levi has a hand to pick."

Kenny looks behind us, Levi is right on our trail, along with the rest of the Corps, "Shit. Liz, start running. Ya know, like that lightning shit you do." 

"You got it Kenny!" 

"Run to Levi, Liz." Kenny says. 

"What? Why?" I question.

"He needs you more than he needs me. Don't become more of an enemy than you already are, or else you can never go back." Kenny looks away, "Now go get him." 

I smile and hug Kenny, "You are one stupid and evil dude Kenny, but you are a good guy, and will always be my best friend. Now run, and survive, YOU HERE ME! RUN YOU DUMBASS!"

He runs off as he yells, "WE WILL DANCE AGAIN ONE DAY LIZ! I PROMISE!"

I smirk, "I WILL HOLD YOU UP TO THAT THEN!" And with that, at lightning speed, I run into the Survey Corps, making their formation confused as I give Kenny more time to get away. Then, I stopped. I just stopped, and all the attention was on me as the Survey Corps drew their blades in a circle around me. One man stepped forward, "And to think, this whole time it was you." 

I look up to the man, "And for you to have never known this whole time, you oblivious dumbass!" 

"Are you saying you knew it was me too?"

I scoffed, "Well, I did raise you for two years of your life, and I taught you to fight and survive the way you do now. You think I wouldn't remember you!?" 

He spoke up, "I just...I just never knew it was you. All this time, I was looking for some older woman, but I should have seen it sooner." 

We look into each others eyes, I speak up, "But you didn't, and it's too late now," Hange approached and puts handcuffs on me, "Remember August 13, 844. Remember that day Levi," They started dragging me away, "Remember those words I wrote you. Please, you must... I ask you this one time to listen, boy, so do it please."

"Titan Queen, Liz, you are under arrest for treason against the Survey Corps and Humanity! Everything you say can and will be used against you in court. You're only right is to silence." Hange orders and Sasha and Connie carry me away. 

"Goodbye...Levi."

Levi took a paper out of a pocket inside his coat, the letter I gave him when I left. He must of kept it on him this whole time. Levi lipped back to me the answer to those last words I wrote to him all those years ago, "I love you too, Liz."
